If they can lower retail price to $150, there is a huge market they can make on developing countries. But since games would be mostly used or cheap, they would have to make a profit on the console sales, so at $150 retail, they would have to cost $120. If they can't reach these price points might be interesting to discontinue.

ps3 is an expensive machine to manufacture, I doubt it will ever be viable to reach that price point as such discontinuing makes more sense, you can't make a profite in developing countries if you can't sell the hardware at a decent profit as they aren;t going to make anything on the games.

They do sell a lot of software on all consoles in India. If the consoles get a price cut here, they can sella lot more software.
In India
PS3 500GB - $350 (As much as XB1 in USA)
PS4 500GB (no bundle) - $600
PS4 1TB (no bundle) - $650
New games on PS4 - $67
New games on PC - $30 (Ubisoft) to $50 (EA)
Also, there is no legitimate used game market in India like Gamestop in USA. Prices of PS4 games fall very slowly compared to PC games. Retail sales of PC games is big in India.
