Lack World Class Players

It has been reported that Paul Scholes feels the world’s best players are not currently competing in the English Premier League.

The former Manchester United star was critical of English clubs and how they are failing to attract the very best from around the world.

Scholes is of the belief that true world-class quality is playing elsewhere in Europe with the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.

Scholes told BT Sport : “If you look at the quality of player that comes to England I don’t think we have the best players in Europe or in the world,”.

“The best players are at Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. I think the level below that is probably Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus. And under that is where the quality of English clubs come into it.”

Scholes was commenting on English clubs failures in the Champions League in recent seasons while also hinting that perhaps Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero would be the only player from the Premier League that would slot nicely into one of Europe’s top teams.

“I really don’t think it’s any surprise,” added Scholes.

“When you think about the quality of players we have, do you think any of the players at our top clubs now would get in the Barcelona team? I very much doubt it.

“They wouldn’t get in the Real Madrid team or the Bayern Munich team. Maybe Sergio Aguero is the exception.”

I think it has more to do with the money at the top. Outside of Spain, there's only one club in the league that can buy all of the players (and in Spain, it's two teams). With the Premier League, there's a lot more competition at every level + the irrational desire to overpay for English talent. Look at Arsenal, there's no reason for them to not be as aggressive as they are. The Premier League's TV contracts are so lucrative, there's no excuse for these teams to not go after the best.

Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,

Well to be fair the Premier League has a lot more worldwide competition today from other leagues in terms of pursuing top talent than it did back in Scholes' heyday.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

But even in those days, Premeier League teams presence in European competitions were not expressive.

De Gea and Courtois could easily start for RM and Barca. A 100% Mata would also be better than Bale and Isco, just look at his pass for Smalling's goal during the Wolfsburg match!

He's exaggerating a bit. De Gea and Courtois would start for Barca and Real. I'd also start Kompany for Barca, but in general he's right, the starting 11 for Barca, Madrid and Bayern is a lot better than top Premier League clubs.

What position is Mata playing at the moment? Cause as creative midfielder, he's on a lower tier level than Modric.

On paper he's a right winger, but he loves going into central areas. Also, doesn't Modric play deeper than what Mata used to play at Chelsea?

He should see what most of the Brazilian players (and consequently, our teams) have become...

He was never a winger on Valencia and Chelsea at first.

Modric always plays CM and AM.
