Forums - Gaming Discussion - Most disappointing "fall from grace" by a game company

I loved Squaresoft.

Then they gutted themselves, sold their soul, merged with Enix and proceeded to repeatedly spit on their fan base.

I don't hate Squaresoft though since they ceased to exist. But I do hate the monstrosity that they've become now, needs to be taken outside and put out of its misery...

I do agree to some extent.Aside from KH games, and Tomb Raider their games on the 7th generation was a complete dissapointment. But they seem to be recovering and getting back on track.Lets wait and hope for the best...

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Did they actually release any new KH games in the 7th gen? I thought they were all re-releases?

Well, im not counting the remasters.I was actually referring mostly to birth by sleep and days.Oh and Dissidia.Hell, everything Nomura was the director in!

The OP pretty much sums up my feelings towards Nintendo these days. They've made questionable decision after head scratching decision generation after generation in spite of their success, and they've really screwed the pooch this gen with the Wii U to the point where it's really going to be tough for them to make a comeback, far beyond the predicament they found themselves in at the end of the N64's and GC's life cycles.

Edit:  Rare was also a hugely disappointing fall from grace for me, going from putting out absolute must own gem after gem during the N64 days with so much potential heading into the 6th gen to the fantastic looking but underwhelming Starfox Adventures on GC and their subsequent software output on M$ consoles, hitting a low point with BK Nuts & Bolts and being reduced to making casual / party games for the Kinect.

Wait you bought Nintendo consoles after the GameCube? Could have fooled me.

Sure did... bought a Wii and a DS within a year of each respective system's release.  Had a lot of fun with both of them, but then Nintendo let the Wii die a slow, painful death from 2010 onwards with major releases being few and far between.

Then after they pulled the plug on the Wii, they released the Wii U with what was probably the worst console launch since the Saturn... overpriced compared to its competitors with hardly any compelling software, and no real 3rd party support to speak of.

As for the 3DS, I also held off on picking one up because again it was way overpriced at launch with no compelling software outside of a couple of N64 ports, and the only game on it that I've actually wanted to play since its release was A Link Between Worlds, which I borrowed from my cousin and beat in less than a week.  Since then I've had no reason to pick up a 3DS either.

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

Loved Nintendo for their classic games, in particular, Super Mario World and Super Mario Bros 3.
Then they started taking a different approach to consoles and games.
Now, I feel indifferent towards them. They are unable to make me like their recent offerings.

Do you still hate them for potentially changing FF VII's battle system ?

Cool idea for a thread!

I won't do Capcom because it's so obvious.

1) Loved SEGA gaming company because of Sonic.

2) Then they created Sonic 06' and many numerous other Sonic based failures (Sonic Boom, Sonic & Secret Rings...the list goes on n' on)

3) I just hope Sega finds a way to make Sonic not suck anymore. It seems so easy to create a good game with a well known IP yet they fail every time.

Loved Nintendo because of  all the games they make and their hardware.

Then they released the Wii U and added region lock to their handhelds (DS didn't have it) which I didn't like.

Now I feel a bit indifferent towards them and hope next gen they can pull off a better home console and can get rid of region locking.

Loved Nintendo. Now i keep loving them :D

How did "Rare" fall so far?
