Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Do you think Nintendo will somehow celebrate Metroid's 30th anniversary in 2016 besides Federation Force?

So as most of you might know Metroid isn't the luckiest of franchises, not only due to the problems Nintendo has to make regular entries in the series, but mostly because it's extremely forgettable since it was published in the same year of the extremely more popular "The Legend of Zelda" so the franchise is usually overshadowed. Next year is the 30th anniversary for both franchises and Nintendo seem to have great plans for Zelda since we have Hyrule Warriors 3DS and possibly Zelda U but on the other hand Metroid only got Metroid Prime: Federation Force. Do you think Nintendo will celebrate the anniversary in some other way or is MPFF the only thing we'll get ? Personally I think a main Metroid game (except if 2.5D and on 3DS) is out of discussion but Nintendo could celebrate in many other cool ways like remasters, remakes, movies (?) and so on...

I'm not sure. With a new Zelda coming out and the only Metroid title coming out is Federation Force with no current development of a Metroid as of now, probably not... There's always the 40th anniversary

Maybe a remastered compilation of all 2D Metroid games (from Metroid 1 to Zero Mission). They could make it for the 3DS and an HD version for the WiiU. It's not a Prime 4, but it would be apreciated and it wouldn't take that many resources.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Metroid was never big as things like Mario and Zelda, so I doubt something really big would happen, though I would surprised if they did nothing.

...maybe Federation Force is the celebration game for the 30th anniversary? :p

Unfortunaly it looks like federation force is the game thats going to celebrate it.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Somehow definitely yes.

I think next year we will have trailer for new Metroid.

We cant be sure about that, we dont know whats on Retro is working. I think development of new Metroid started like Wii U project but was shifted for NX, I expecting announcement next year.

While this news only talks about Metroid Prime, I feel like this is the only Metroid project currently being worked on if any, "Speaking to Eurogamer at E3, Metroid Prime series producer Kensuke Tanabe said that due to the amount of content such a game would require, it would probably take several years to develop.

"If we started for Wii U now, it would likely take three years or so. So it would likely now be on Nintendo's NX console," he said."

I'm expecting a celebration twice as bigger as the one for Metroid's 25th Anniversary back in 2011.
