Is it a wonder the series entered a decline and has basically died? That's what we call market over-saturation, though, to be fair, a lot of them were released on the PS2 back when DLC wasn't a thing and they just sold you disc after disc of content packs instead. To be more fair, they still released over 20 editions of Singstar on the PS3, which is ludicrous. I'm sure the vast bulk of those releases should have been restricted to digital DLC.
Singstar died basically the same way Guitar Hero did, which was the same reason that Rock Band disappeared for quite awhile. Rhythm games are easy to turn out since you can only slightly alter the gameplay mechanics and get away with releasing a new track list while calling it a day. Guitar Hero released a new edition for everything and finally forced itself to become irrelevant. Rock Band wasn't quite as bad once they got a handle on DLC, but they still went a little release crazy with things like Beatles Rock Band and other specific band based experiences.
As nice as it is to see Guitar Hero getting reimagined and Rock Band coming back in full force, I just hope they don't pull what happened before and see how quickly they can turn out release after release again.
