Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is Nintendo's jump into mobile their new fail safe in case of a poorly selling console?

It's very reckless for a company as big as Nintendo to depend on only one rource of income. Nintendo has always had three basic moneymakers: hardware, software and 3rd party fees. With those three sources shrinking every year, it is necessary to compensate with something new. And mobile will be really profitable.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

Agree... but hopefully it wont come to this. And as a foot in the door, its way to tiny and needs far more support for it to remains open IMO.

Most deffinatly mobile will be just one part. I wonder if health still takes a leading role for Nintendo next gen. They had so many protoipes in the past decade, it would be a shame if it would all go to waste.

Simply, Nintendo is only gaming company and they can't completele ignore mobile market anymore.

Really what's with threads spamming.

Yeah I think the future of Nintendo as a games console maker only, is on the line with the NX. If it fails I think they'll be stepping up their mobile business considerably.

Probably. They need to get new sources of revenue so mobile is a good place to look at

Nintendo can't ignore the mobile market anymore.

They have to do anything they can do to help maximize profits.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

I am always surprised that merchandising alone does not keep them in business.

Too many knockoffs around the market.

The company is too big to be sustained on one thing. The Pokemon anime couldn't do it alone. Even if it was still in season 1 hype. But mobile wouldn't be able to hold them either. If everything fell apart. They'd have to restructure.

Bootleg hurts, but that's not the reason why their merchandise wouldn't keep them afloat alone.  The main reason why is their huge operating fees.  They have to build their products and that's not a small fee.  All their consoles are $99 and above to purchase and small merchandise wouldn't build the profit they would need to continue the cycle.  But of course this whole Amiibo thing is really adding up their yearly.
