Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Does no real Mario, AC, Fzero, Metroid or DK this gen pretty much guarantee they are coming on NX?

I am so sick and tired of people saying Mario 3D World doesn't count just because they drastically changed the formula. News flash people, they've done that every single gen since the SNES. Just because this isn't what YOU would have chosen does NOT mean it doesn't count.

And DK has always been predominantly 2D.

AC, Metroid, and F-Zero are fair points.

I'm tired of it as well. I see it as a cop-out to just complain more, which seems to be a hobby for many people.

Edit: And I think it's time we stop focusing on what the Wii U doesn't have, and instead focus on what it does have. Unlike the Wii, it has Pikmin, Bayonetta, The Wonderful 101, Captain Toad, Genei Ibun Roku #FE, Pokken Tournament, Mario Maker, Hyrule Warriors, a localized Fatal Frame, ZombiU, Star Fox, Darksiders, Deus Ex, Splatoon, Yoshi, Nintendo Land, Mass Effect 3, Lego City Undercover, among others (including many quality indie games).

Not to mention all the games that improved over their last-gen counterparts, such as Smash Bros., Mario Kart, NSMB, Donkey Kong Country, etc.

And of course, there's Wind Waker HD. Having my favorite 3D Zelda on the system is always a plus.

Where's the "Like" button when you actually need one?

@Spurge: I accept that there's no real F-Zero (we get Fast Racing NEO and 200cc mode in MK8 instead, but hey, last gen also had no F-Zero and Nintendo actually tried to get one for the console) and no real Metroid, but no Mario (we got a 2D one and a 3D one ffs) or Donkey Kong (were Tropical Freeze is prety much seen as one of the best, if not THE best game of the series) is just ludicrous. Add to this all those games we got which we didn't have the previous gen(s) listed above, and I really can't see why there's so much fuss about it.

Oh, and ever had in mind that a lack of sales could be the reason why the missing games are not on the Wii U? Cause if that would be the case, it would actually be more of a reason why they would NOT be on NX.

You did get a real 3D Mario game and Donkey Kong game on the Wii U.

Did you just say that Tropical Freeze wasn't a real DK?

I mean, while I agree with your apparent opinion that DK64 is the best game ever made, clearly, TF is still real by every metric

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

"No real Mario or DK"? Seriously? Wii U got two "real" Mario games: New Super Mario Bros U and Super Mario 3D World, both of which were quite good. 3D World in particular was an amazing 3D platformer. Donkey Kong Country Returns Tropical Freeze is one of the best games in the franchise. These are "real" games. Given that DKCRTP didn't sell especially well, and Retro Studios will likely be working on another Metroid for the NX, I doubt we'll be getting another one for awhile. A new Mario is pretty much guaranteed, though a new Mario that you would consider a "real" Mario game is not. It could be in the vein of 3D World, Galaxy, 64, a side scroller, or something completely different.

I'll be surprised if Wii U doesn't get a last minute release of a traditional Animal Crossing game. Between the app and the party game I've felt they've been building up to it. But if Wii U doesn't get it, NX definitely will. A new Metroid was all but confirmed for NX, if it's coming any time soon at all. F-Zero seems to be the least guaranteed. There was apparently an attempt to make one for the WIi U's launch, and I imagine that Nintendo's waiting for the right idea and/or developer to come along.

Give Spurge a break. There hasn't been a "real" Donkey Kong game since Donkey Kong 3 and that was terrible.

I would say Tropical Freeze is a real DK game and 3D World and NSMBU are real Mario games... :/

but, hopefully it does mean we can get a Metroid Prime and real Animal Crossing game for the NX

I think FZero is basically finished :/

Actually, they tried to have F-Zero at launch for Wii U, remember?  Wouldn't be surprised if they try again.

Super Mario 3D World and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. Okay for the rest, the Wii U doesn't have any, but where were Animal Crossing and F Zero on the original Wii?

Zelda as well along with others. After Mario world, which in my opinion was not the Mario we deserved even though it was great, we have only been given a bunch of Mario features gamea. They dis not want the same formula so they are leaving him for the NX. Ok, that is not too far fetched.  Evwry system gets a Mario.

We are geeting a AC party game, DK was a side scroller and the other three are nothing. Kirby got very little effort and they ignored the reat of their characters. Pikmin 4 is ready, but is waiting for NX moat likely.

What doea thia all mean foe Wii U? It means that other than already announced titles, we will only get very little effort put into the rest of its games. I do not want to think about it though, too sad.

Long story short, they are setting the NX up perfectly for a great first year even without third party support. But I have a feeling their NX third party support will be in the form of indies. Both retailer and digital.

I don't get the complaint about 3D World. 3D Mario games have been evolving ever since Sunshine, getter more linear with each installment. It's just the natural progression of the Mario games. I wouldn't be opposed to another 3D Mario game in the vein of 64 or Sunshine, but that doesn't mean that 3D World isn't a ''real'' 3D Mario game.

DK games have always been sidescrollers. The only exception was DK64, and that game was arguably pretty mediocre, the DKC series is way better in my opinion. Kirby and the Rainbow Curse was just as much a Kirby game than any other, just with a different game mechanic. Kirby games are known for being smaller games and not as grand in scale as a Mario or Zelda game, so I don't see how Rainbow Curse got less effort than previous Kirby games. Kirby games have never been system sellers to begin with. Animal Crossing on the other hand sells better on handhelds, it was just a matter of time before they moved to handhelds.

Metroid isn't guaranteed for NX, and apart from Federation Force, Metroid isn't guaranteed to appear on a Nintendo console anytime soon. Their management for the Metroid franchise is a big mess, I give you that, but that doesn't guarantee it's coming to NX. F-Zero... Well, just look at the sales figures, sales have dwindled ever since the first game, each new entry selling less games than the previous entry. F-Zero never got a Wii game, so I don't think its absence proves that it's coming to Nintendo's next console.

On the other hand, we did get a new Pikmin game, and likely another one. We get a new Star Fox game on the Wii U, and we already got a new Yoshi game. These are franchises we haven't seen for a generation or two either [on home consoles]. We got Splatoon, Captain Toad, Wonderful 101, Pokkén Tournament, etc. Plenty of games that we never got on other consoles.
