I recently un-earthed my original Xbox. Gave it a clean up and hooked it up to my HDTV via component cables. Played the first Halo(of course) and was surprised by how nice it looked even to this day. The build quality of both variants of the official controllers was also impressive. The console itself had some nice features for its time too such as built in hard drive, ethernet port(now essentially non-functional), PAL-60 support, 480P/720P/1080i resolutions, wide screen options etc. Compared to the 360 which was riddled with hardware flaws and the Xbox 1 which was initially focused as a media centre with gaming being an adjunct to it, I would say Microsoft's first foray into console gaming was their best effort. What do you guys reckon?

That controller is hard to look at. I remember trying to use it. Its freaking horrible.

Unfortunately. I sold my original Xbox once the Xbox 360 got released, it seemed superfluous to hold onto with the Xbox 360's backwards compatibility via emulation... Plus scaler for better image quality.
Not to mention I preferred the Xbox 360's controller anyhow.

However... That machine was built like a brick shithouse and the break-away cable was a godsend and managed to pave the way for Achievements, DLC, Online console gaming.

I also enjoyed it for it's media capabilities back then, which was impressive for a console, had my entire music collection ripped onto which I happily used instead of Grand Theft Auto's default music.

It definitly has some characher. 

Psh, the Duke was glorious for men with big hands. I laugh at the tiny hands of people who didn't like it. 

Let's put it this way: I still use my OG Xbox. I refuse to own a 360 or X1.

Was it their best? Kotor says yes.

Well, it had Knights of the Old Republic, so... Yes I guess so.

I know, right? It's like why had no one else applied D&D to Star Wars since then? 

Good thing you can play that game on the Xbox 360 too. ;)

I usually hear people say that the Xb360 was better.
The original Xbox had a much more diverse library compared to both the 360 and Xb1 though.
