SNES. I read the preview pages of Nintendo Power until they desolved from over use, and pretty much vomited with excitement every night leading up to that Christmas. The great part: it delivered beyond expectations.

The only system I ever was hyped for was the Wii. It might even be the only system within the first few months as well.

NNID: garretslarrity

Steam: garretslarrity

I remember seeing stuff on Sonic Adventure, Soul Calibur, Ready 2 Rumble, Power stone, etc. and being really excited about the Dreamcast and what a leap it was compared to the Saturn, PlayStation, and N64.

Probably Nintendo 64 because I was so impressed with Super Mario 64.

Vita. Best launch and launch window line up since the PS2. It was all down hill from there.  I was hyped up for it more than the PS2 because how great the PSP was before it as well and thinking that without the UMD and including the second analog it would have had to do better.  Great launch games, great portable design, priced well. I don't think anyone thought it was going to do as bad as it did, even the people against it.

It was the PS2.
The only system that ever felt next gen to me.

I don´t know but I just want to say you are right, one piece IS the greatest thing that ever happend to mankind

Agreed, its right up there with the toilet, and internet.

Honestly, I guess my weird answer is Gamecube, even though it is by no means my fav. system, not even close. But I was very hyped by the Spaceworld Zelda demo, and the possibilities for a Mario 64 sequel, and another Star Fox, and another Smash Bros., and another Mario Kart, and Wave Race, etc.

Sadly, the only games out of those that I even wound up liking, were Melee and Wave Race. Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker are hardly bad games, but they were hardly what I personally wanted in new Mario or Zelda games. I eventually got pretty much exactly what I wanted in Zelda with Twilight Princess though. But the GC, all around, while it had many brilliant games like Eternal Darkness, and Pikmin, and Chibi Robo, and Metroid Prime, etc., held a lot of disappointments to me personally, as far as either games like Kirby and DK Racing never materializing, or games I had high hopes for like Mario Kart or Star Fox, turning out to be (in my opinion) hot garbage.

So really....I don't know. I was surprisingly excited for the launch of the Dreamcast, even though I had grown up a "Nintendo kid", because it was going to have Soul Calibur, and MvC2, and a new 3D Ecco the Dolphin, and what to me looked like a really promising Castlevania game (that never came out, sadly). I was somewhat excited for the N64's launch, but I really always felt they were jumping into 3D too much, too soon, and wish that console, more similar to the Saturn, had done more 2D games, because 64 bit 2D games could have been awesome if they bothered trying.

My fav. consoles of all time are the NES and SNES, in that order, but really, I grew up fairly poor, so we always got systems like that years after they initially launched, so I was always "behind". So I wouldn't say I was super excited for the launch of either, rather I was super excited when I finally was able to get one myself.

It's entirely possible that I've never been SUPER hyped for any one console launch. I went all out trying to save up money to get the Wii U at launch, because I really wanted Pikmin 3 when it came out, etc. But not only was I still not really HYPED for it's launch, Pikmin 3 also wound up being a disappointment. But hey.

Oddly enough, none of them.

Looking back, I always seemed to drop out of console gaming toward the end of a generation. I played the heck out of the NES but gaming wasn't my primary hobby and I barely paid any attention to the SNES launch. I only got one because a rich kid gave me his in exchange for some skateboard parts in an unbelievable deal. I drifted out of gaming again until I saw that FF7 commercial for the PS1. LOVED the PS1 but then the PS2 was way out of my price-range. Instead, I found Daggerfall and became a PC gamer for awhile.

I eventually did get a PS2 when the price came down, and a Dreamcast, too. After awhile, though, I got a new PC and discovered MMOs. Ragnarok Online and then WoW took me out of the home console scene completely. The PS3 being $600 just reinforced that.

I no longer play MMOs but having a gaming PC means I'm completely content to wait for a price-cut on a PS4. I still have games to play on the PS3, as well.

Before ps2, my favorite launch was definitely the dreamcast. I remember being in best buy and they had a dreamcast kiosk with sonic adventure being playable. They had the reserve cards for the system and the game and I reserved both. There was also a "games magazine of the future" on vhs which they covered the Japanese dreamcast launch.

And for the next 2 or 3 months, I did nothing but stare at those reservation cards for sonic adventure and dreamcast, trying to imagine myself playing it.
