Forums - Politics Discussion - Donald Trump on Stephen Colbert's Late Show: Immigration, how Trump will make Mexico pay for the wall

Serious question, why does he hates Mexican so much? Did the Mexicans do something to him?

I don't understand why people think Trump hates Mexicans, but I hope this will clear things up, or at the very least, give you my perspective of the matter.

Trump has stated that he wants to deport illegal immigrants and he wants to bring back the good ones legally.  He has stated that there are a ton of gang members that are illegal immigrants that of course he would not accept back into this country.

Now I guess you and I can both agree that the majority of illegal immigrants in the United States are Mexican.  But there are other illegal immigrants from countries all across the world as well.  So to say that Trump hates Mexicans because he wants to deport illegal immigrants is a false narrative.  Nowhere in the terms "illegal immigrants" does it state anything about race, religion, or country of origin.  It is rather people on the web and the media trying to create negativity around a person who is trying to fix an issue.

As for Trump making Mexico pay for the wall:

He has stated that we are losing about 45 billion dollars in trade deficit to Mexico every year.  So for Mexico to pay about 5 billion of those dollars for a wall should not be a problem for them.  I don't think that he is hating on them in the slightest, but rather fixing the issues that are currently riddled throughout our nation.

As for the interview: I thought it was a rather informative interview that showed where Trump stands with certain issues while incorporating funny visuals.  Great job to both Trump and Colbert.

I have no idea if he hates Mexicans or not but, given his inflammatory and unsubstantiated comments about Mexican immigrants, I can totally see why people would have that impression.  That's his own fault.

Unless that wall is equipped with with anti-air cannons and 100 ft. deep, it isn't going to stop anything.

In reality Mexico is just going to say "fuck you", they will never pay for a wall like this.

Trump can talk about trade deficits all he wants but the president can't just violate trade agreements like that on a whim either. They involve private industries and US companies who would have problems if the government starting meddling in trade agreements.

So that's never going to fly either.

In general I think there is the false view that governments acutally control the economy. They don't. The economy is global market that does whatever the hell it wants and there's no government or regulatory force that can "control" it. It's like saying a guy riding a bull is in control of the bull ... not a chance.

A wall is old technology: you can climb it or dig underneath. We need drones with heat vision to monitor our borders and punishment of sanctuary cities.

But he didn't say anything inflammatory and unsubstantiated towards Mexican Immigrants

Lets put you in a group and then lets rephrase a comment. This one is easy, since we're all gamers, so lets say I said:

"I'm sure some gamers are good people, but some of them are murderers and rapists in there too that we need to be worried about that."

You wouldn't find that to be an inflammatory statement? Pretty sure the game community would melt down over that.

Deporting all of the Mexicans would be a catastrophe. It would be a disaster forcing 11 million immigrants out, as they probably would not willingly go back.

Of course not.  Why would I find that to be an inflammatory statement?

Let me ask you some questions and make some statements.  There are two countries that border the United States.  When people are talking about illegal immigrants, they are talking about those that are crossing the Mexico-United States border.

So my questions to you is this:
What is the nationality of the illegal immigrants coming from Mexico?
If you were to answer "Mexican", you would be incorrect.  That is like saying every single Muslim is a terrorist.
Can a person not drive into Mexico and then cross the Mexico-US border?  Can someone not fly into Mexico and then cross the US-Mexico border?  If they are crossing that border illegally, are they Mexican too?  Of course not!

So why on Earth are people labeling these illegal immigrants with a nationality?  God forbid that there is a Chinese person who crosses the US-Mexican border illegally.  Are you going to classify that Chinese person a Mexican too?

So trump says that there are illegal immigrants who are rapists, killers, drug dealers etc coming from Mexico.  Uhhh what other country is there where they can cross from?  He can't say they are coming from Brazil because Brazil doesn't border the US.  You obviously have heard of the Cartel (drug dealers) and the elderly woman that was raped and killed with hammer by an illegal immigrant.  So yes, that statement is true.

Including in the drug dealer, rapist, and criminals, he also said there are good people coming over as well. So what on Earth did he say incorrectly?  Every single statement that he said was factual and in no way was directed towards any nation. It is people like you and many others who are labeling these illegal immigrants as Mexicans when they are ALL DIFFERENT forms of nationality.
