Uh.. can you not see what is going on? He doesn't like VR because it removes the local social aspect of gaming, so OBVIOUSLY every single game MS releases on his watch now must include split screen co op or he is a huuuuuuuuuuuge hypocrite! Quit being reasonable and grab a pitchfork.

Nope... it isn't because Halo 5 doesn't have it... is his reasoning saying people don't play locally anymore. This is what contradicts his VR statement.

You're rewording exactly what I said, so I am not sure where the "Nope" comes in to play.

And there was no contradiction. He literally said they analyzed data and realized people don't play local co-op as much as they play online co-op now. If he'd said the opposite, and they still took it out, then you'd have your contradiction. In reality though it's just a laughable reach.

But Spencer always makes the crowd go wild.

SO if people don't mp locally anymore his VR won't be successfull lose a lot of weught, don't you think?

He said people don't play Halo local as much according according to data. Doesn't mean anything in relation to MP in general or VR.

We obviously don't know for machines that don't connect, but yeah. When you look at where most of the multiplayer happens in games, Live (is the place) just because it's so easy. I don't have to have somebody at my house. I love the nostalgia of the couch co-op of what Halo did in the past, but I also know in the realities of the day with people's busy lives, it's not as easy to get everybody in the same physical place. It's one of the advantages that Xbox Live obviously offers."

This don't seem exclusive to Halo does it?

duduspace11 "Well, since we are estimating costs, Pokemon Red/Blue did cost Nintendo about $50m to make back in 1996"

Mr Puggsly: "Hehe, I said good profit. You said big profit. Frankly, not losing money is what I meant by good. Don't get hung up on semantics"

Azzanation: "PS5 wouldn't sold out at launch without scalpers."

Yeah, people play co-op via Xbox Live because they don't have any other choice on the matter...

And how does the new generation grow up playing games, yes split-screen gaming. Or should I tell my kids to go live in different houses so they can play together. Hunny it's time for a divorce so we can play together.

Ha! Now if only you can buy an Xbox One with divorce money.

It's one thing to not have splitscreen in new IP because it's becoming less important as a main part of people's gaming activities. But it's another thing to remove it from a franchise that is known and loved partly for having splitscreen, just for the sake of what, making the game prettier?

Man, has resolution, textures, lighting and particlae effects really become that important that they are preferrable over a game mode people love? If Phil said "Halo 5 resolution is 900p because we needed to facilitate splitscreen." people would have said "Yay! Phil Spencer, the people's champion!" They would not be shouting "WTF Phil!?! Get rid of effing split screen, it's gotta be 1080p or no buy!"

People would probably be fine with split screen dropping you down to 30fps in order to carry the load. End of the day, people playing split screen are mostly doing it for funsies not doing it with their serious gameface on.

So this is just a continuation of the game industry in general getting us to pay more and receiving less.

This is exactly how I feel.

Phil talking too much again lol. What did I tell you people?

Always hate when businessmen give the lame excuse of "we think people play this a certain way so we didn't include it this way".

He should have stayed silent. People still play splitscreen. And not everybody has online. Hell even if you do, nothing beats the fun of split screen/local mutliplayer.

Currently own:

  • Ps4

Currently playing: Witcher 3, Walking Dead S1/2, GTA5, Dying Light, Tomb Raider Remaster, MGS Ground Zeros

The real problem is the fact that the X1 can not do both 180p and offline co op.Like really, what were they thinking when they designed this system?

Exactly and the X1 is the second choice for this generation so most people won't even play it online and pay o Live just for one game.If I had an X1 I would not be paying for Live due to me preferring the PS4 and I already pay for PSN,which I would be playing more games on.I would play off line co op and this would be a kick in the head to me.The Xboxis no longer the go to system for online gaming.
