Forums - Sales Discussion - UK Charts WEEK ENDING 19 September 2015

A quality game won't sell if its a sim racer that releases bi-anually in a series which has annual releases. This is why Forza Motorsport should be made like one game every 3 or 4 years. MS should treat it the way they treat Halo and Gears, which is one of the reasons why those franchises contiue to see sales success. Forza has been declining since 3 and Horizon 2 could have sold a lot better if it was released this year instead of last year, and Forza 6 in 2016/2017 would have been better with a bigger roster of cars and tracks.

Forza is a great franchise, I honestly do not see the need to release one every year (including horizon) Are they trying to keep it relevant by over producing? It looks like the demand may not even be that high.

So we have

1
Forza Motorsport 4 (X360)
Microsoft Game Studios, Racing
108,488 108,488 1
3
Forza Motorsport 5 (XOne)
Microsoft Game Studios, Racing
62,028 62,028 1

And now the 6th entry between 22k and 36k? Well doesn't that scream oversaturation, I guess people aren't that excited for this part of the "biggest lineup in Xbox history" anymore.

Yep, seems so. Doesn't mean the game isn't great, though, in terms of quality. Unless someone wants to say quality equals in sales but than COD was the "best" franchise last gen, in terms of quality, outselling all other games. I don't think we want to go this road.

But this isn't COD.  Forza just isn't exciting anymore.  I think this is the year that Microsoft has to bring back PGR because they are destroying Forza. There are more Forzas on Xbox One than CODs on Xbox One.   There is no reason for this.  Again, I say PGR.

Btw if you check this news you should find out some people just want to blame Forza
http://www.vgchartz.com/article/260960/microsoft-7-million-unique-players-have-played-forza-on-the-xbox-one/
"I wonder if that includes people that downloaded the demos."
"That isnt much impressive when we are talking about 7 millions for three games (Forza 5, Forza 6, and Forza Horizon)"
"it most likely includes the players who DL the free Fast and Furious stand alone pack"

The first comment get 15 thumbs up even it's totally wrong, the news already said it's only include Forza 5 and Horizon 2(XB1 ver only)
Also i don't even know what's the problem with this PR, you people serious think something like 50% people using shared account?

Btw Horizon 2 XB1 version have 2.1m player in ranking and Forza 5 have 4.9m.

The problem is that it's the usual shameful, misleading MS PR crap that some people are going to inevitably eat up as "hurrdurr Forza 5 and Horizon 2 sold 7 million units on X1", when that is not even remotely what this means.

Here are the problems with this announcement:

1. The way they arrived at the number vs. what they are claiming what it is.

Looking at the leaderboard numbers you posted it is pretty apparent that they arrived at 7 million by just adding up Horizon 2 and Forza 5 leaderboard numbers. What they claim this is though is 7 million unique users, which even if we ignore the idea of more than one account on one console is still completely disregarding a much more important point: the clear overlap that is going to exist between the userbases of these 2 games.

2. All the ways these leaderboard numbers can be inflated without anyone actually having to buy this game new.

There is of course the used game market, but there's also the rental market, borrowing the game from someone, getting Forza 5 on the free weekend, possibly even just playing Horizon 2s demo depending on how that is set up and finally simply playing the game on more than one account on one system.

So what this means is that the 7 million number tells us fuck all about the actual number of people that currently own Forza 5 and/or Horizon 2

Where are these people?

And i already tell you any god damn demo doesn't count in it.

And i already talked about your second point, read before post something repeated.

PR Crap? more like you people just keep the usual hate.

Horizon 2 sold better than 1 unless you trust VGChartz numbers which is even ignored NPD's report numbers.

The problem is Motorsport(sim racer players dropping), not Horizon.

Well don't blame me for noticing that it drop out of the charts.

You only notice that in order to derail the thread into a Forza vs Tearway sales which is a ridiculous comparison in a first place when one game is a port of a handheld game nobody played vs a sequel of well known AAA franchise that is obviously suffering from fatigue.

Wow how did you come to that conclusion that I am comparing Forza and Tearaway? Also there are things to consider that Forza 5 had the launch advantage as well as the holidays so saying it's declining is too early to call.

Proud to be a Californian.

Was the Forza Xbox One bundle available in the UK? Does anyone know how much it sold?

Well maybe this means that Forza will take a break for a while.  (No pun intended.)

If that is the only thing you can muster as a reply then don't reply at all.

bolded: Believe me, you will have these now and again, it always happens with theese PR statements

1. Prove to me that the demo isn't counted, a google search shows me that the demo for Horizon 2 also has online and it could thus be assumed that demo players would also be represented on the leaderboards, I'm not saying that's 100% the case but if you're saying it isn't then prove it.

2. You did not talk about my second point at all.  And even if you did, what does it matter? It doesn't change the fact that the point is simply true, there are tons of ways to get on these leaderboards without having to actually buy the game.

And stop crying about "people keeping up the hate" and start blaming MS for making bullshit PR statements like this. Nobody would be "hating" if they just had the balls to give a sales number or just didn't give a number at all, but instead they have to throw a number at people and it has to be the highest number possible, so they chose this BS.
