The only solution: M$ should have released an Xbox One without Kinect (Since people didn't want it) and still charged $499 for it. That way, they wouldn't seem desperate. :p

Oh no, everyone knows they are desperate. MS would obviously love to sell as many consoles as Sony is with the PS4, nobody is arguing that. Lets skip past all of this BS and realize that we are only talking about the proper terminology here. Why is this so hard to understand, lol. No ones defending MS.

Sorry, but I have to disagree...not everyone think that MS is desparate..

The xbox one with kinect was the only option til they were forced to "unbundle" it to slash the price down to match the PS4's price. It's a pricecut because the kinect originally was meant to be a part of the xbox one and the feature was removed to drop the price. The PS3 had features removed to drop it's price. That was a price cut too.

regardless of original intentions, the fact remains, the xbox one currently priced at $349.00 is not the same as the "launch" sku and doesn't have kinect.

The xbox one with kinect is still very much alive and available for purchase at $449.00. A $150.00 price cut would mean that the original xbox bundle price of $499.00 would now be $349.00  WITH Kinect. But that's not the case is it?

Again, to be really considered as a price cut, it should offer the same value as the original. no kinect, not a $100 price cut. palin and simple.

I'm guessing you're reffering to the original model that came in 60Gb and 20Gb with the PS2 inards to allow for some B/C. then tints.hey gutted it and came out with the 80Gb and 40Gb with no PS2 guts and no B/C and with lesser USB slots..

No, those are not price cuts. What they are are new models/new skus and new entry points. But would it sell the way it sold if it were advertised as such? Of course not, hence calling it a "price-cut" for marketing purposes.

That's odd, I haven't seen that sku since last year. It's not in stores or Amazon, other than third party resellers who have it used.

Only found it on the Microsoft store for$499, not $449.

That sku died once they cut the price, since only a handful of ppl wanted Kinect.

Only have a Vita and a 3Ds now. Both were collecting dust for near 10months before I decided to try and play one of the games on sale i got back last xmas 2 months ago...tried hypderdimention neptuna rebirth 1, must say, it got me hooked on gaming again...

The 3ds on the otherhand...well..yeah...no 3ds games...was gonna get an ecard as i dislike carying multiple carts around..then hyperdimension u action unleash and v generation 3 went on sale on psn...got a psn card instead...sorry nintendo... maybe next time...well..actually, maybe next year as i've already spent all my gaming budget for the year.

with that said, i do hope MS initiates a massive price cut and sony follows suit with a massive price cut of their own and both gets to the sweet $250 range... maybe in two years hahahaha

Two things I see as options if I were Sony.

1 - If I was Sony I would consider waiting until September next year and drop the price by $100 and in the mean time look for more efficient factories to produce PS4's.

2 - I would also heavily consider dropping the price this year by $50 then launching the PS4 slim in two more years with a $100 price cut. A $250 PS4 slim with a price cut would be huge in two or three years. Then a year or two before PS5 cut the price by $50 to bring it down to the sweet mark of $199 and hopefully repeat the success of the PS2. The PS4 would then sell long into the PS5's lifetime due to how relevant the console still is.

But this all depends on how much ground MS gains and how much Sony reacts or how much MS reacts to Sony. Its a boring race day-to-day but through the next five years it'll be something to look back on, for sure.

Considering its still available on MS's own store, then its still availabe...but at $499? talk about brain fart. MS sure aint helping get kinect into people's houses.

I personally want kinect and the ps cam for the ps4..then again, i'm one of those who got a move controler, navigator and pscam for the ps3 when i still had one...sooooo... yeah...I'm in the minority obviously.

Anyways, going from $499 to $349 to game on an xbox one in under two years sure is a large dive in price...if things go on line this, the one would be cheaper than the 360 soon lol

eh, i'm not gonna prettend that I know stuff, but i'm gonna guess that Sony has already brought down manufacturing cost of the PS4 significantly compared to at launch and they can cut prices anytime. They're just trying to squeeze out as much cash per unit sold that they can.. considering that their other departments sucks ass.

Oh of course they have, especially with how popular the console has been. But the time is going to come when they begin to manufacture the PS4 Slimline which I think they will release in about two or three years. So I think they will drop the price by $50 this year then drop the price by $100 when the Slimline releases, at least that's what I hope. We all remember what happened when Kevin Butler introduced the $299 price tag for the new PS3 model don't we? Now that was some September, it was just neat to see the full effect of two actions, the new model and $100 price reduction.

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony releases a new "slim" model in the next year or so. Historically, Sony releases new models within 2-4 years after launch of the original with a dramatically lower price point.

If Sony releases a new slimmer model next year at $100 less or maybe even $150 lesser it would effectively end the war this generation and be the undesputed winner.

I hope Sony cuts the price - it's about damn time! MS would have to follow and set new records, despite already decreasing the price by $150 It sucks that MS is the only company actively fighting for customers this gen

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

Yeah, too bad Nintendo went total retard with the Wii U...
Then again, if history is to be believed, last gen was the exception since in most gens, there is always a clear cut winner that runs away with a huge chunk of the market shares.
not sure about the atari and nes but
snes was ahead of the megadrive/genesis by a comfortable margin
the ps1 kicked the Saturn and the N64s assess
the ps2 byatch slapped the cube and the original box and killed the dream
the wii looked like it would run away with the win but all three consoles sold extremely well
now the ps4 looks like its gonna kick some assess again...this holiday will dictate if the one can still make a run or if it will be doomed to be crushed by the ps4...the u is all but dead.

When Kinect X1 isn't selling anything considerable and they haven't trully supporting it there is no denying that in pratical terms the console had a 150 cut on it's pricetag.

And if we want to play semantics... then on last year on the Black Friday X1 with 5 games and 50 bonus on the 320 consoles would effectively mean X1 had a pricecut of it's total value?

And as I said in another thread for me this is just Phil saying they will cut the price again, but trying to slow down sony sales until they cut it (like 2 weeks after Halo release)
