Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony Bend Dev Says Next Game Will "Push PS4 to Somewhere It's Never Been"

I trust Sony Bend more than Ready@Dawn, since they have been able to make a successful and fun home console game (Syphon Filter). But the last good game from them that was an original title was Syphon Filter 2, which was 15 years ago. As of now, they have the same problem that made me cautious of The Order before it released; being a studio that only knows how to take an established franchise with all the mechanics fleshed out and make a game out of it.

Like I said, they have Syphon Filter on their resume, but their last good one was 15 years ago. They could be out of touch in today's gaming generation. I'll reserve judgment for their game when it releases. I refuse to get hyped for it

Wish it was a next-gen Syphon filter, but we wouldnt be that lucky.

Can't wait for the announcement!

Maybe now that Metal Gear will be no more, it would be a nice fill to that gap in the espionage genre.

Sure I will stay tuned !

No offense but Syphon Filter 2 was garbage when compared to Dark Mirror and Logan's Shadow.

@OP

I really, really hope that they're working on a new Syphon Filter. That alone would make me buy a PS4.

It is funny that they do always say that. Hopefully they really will, though. Looking forward to hearing more.

Meh, canned hype speak. The only thing that intrigues me about the statement is the possibility of expanding into a new area or elaborating on a unique style of gaming. But, without any additional information it's mainly guesswork, and nothing more.

devs say this same crap all the time lol

When it comes to graphics, Sony Studios always deliver as they are the benchmark every gen among all consoles, so i dont think there is any crap in this statement.

Will it be any good? Well see!

It is crap though. It will look good but its all just purely hype PR. How many times did devs say last year ''this game will push ps3/360 to its limits!'' and it never did lol

Actually, you're partially right.  It is PR hype, however, it's not a false statement either.  AAA studios, don't just make games that utilize 30, 50, 70% of the hardware.  It uses 100% of the available resources, it just generally does so poorly in the onset.  Which is why iteration over iteration (Uncharted 1, 2, 3, TLOU etc... as an example), looked and performed better over time.  ND didn't just use a portion of what's available, their code was unrefined/they were able to create new techniques to more efficiently use the resources.

Definitely PR speak, but technically a correct statement.  Though, that's not exactly what they said either.  They said it's going to push the PS4 somewhere it's never been before, which could be taken any number of ways, but not limited just to how much of the resources it uses.
