Forums - Sales Discussion - Will the XB1 sell better this holiday than holiday 2014?

Best holiday lineup imo + holiday sales + Halo 5 = yes

If Microsoft makes again these bundles then easily.

Probably not. Because last year deals were awesome, and i don't think they can do the same again (except if they give the Xone for 200/250 with 4 games).

Yes and by a large margin, at least in the US anyway. BC, brand new UI dedicated to making the system function like a core gaming machine, Halo, better marketing.... it's a different beast than it was last year.

Those first two points don't move hardware in any meaningful way.

As for marketing, it is debatable. They have got Fallout and Tomb Raider,  but have lost Cod and Assassin's Creed. You also have to compare it to the competition. Sony only had GTAV last year for the holidays, and that was a remaster of a one yeae old game. This year they have Battlefront,  Cod and Ass Creed. They will take sales from one another based on these partnerships, and MS does not have the third party advantage it had last year.

I think it comes down to what it always looked like coming down to. Halo 5,  and whether or not there is a price cut.

Exactly.

It is very likely that the Xbox One will sell better than last holidays, but the Ps4 will too. So that will nulify any variation between the two.

And lets be honest, the battlefront and COD partnership is HUUUUGE. I would not be surprised if the Ps4 squeeze an NPD win in one of those holidays months.

I think there is a very big chance it will beat last year, and there is also a very real chance XB1 will beat PS4 in the U.S.

Plus backwards compatibility, Fable legends, and better 3rd party games than last year. There is still a good chance for a holiday bundle as well. And never say never when it comes to MS, they could easily drop the price this holiday if Sony does the same.

That is the big mistake here.

Bundles do the job for console but the massive increase in sales in US last year for Xbone was because the "temporary" price cut and deals.

The best seller bundles was AC and CoD bundles due the new "temporary" price $350.

Unless MS go to $250 "temporary" price this year it won't happen like last year.

Why is people thinking that Backwards Compatibility will somehow move X1 consoles?!

Not only that, but specifically on the holidays. The BC is only relevant on holidays too? Damn!

They certainly have the lineup to do it. But, as other people pointed out, are they going to be able to duplicate the compelling deals of last year. Halo will give them a real chance but people may come to expect unbelievable deals that MS may not be able to match with last year. I think when all is said and done they will pull it off but it is going to be a tall order as they performed phenomenally last year.

I am also very curious to see how Sony does. I have never been a fan of their holiday strategy and would like to see them step up their game in that regard. They have the third party marketing rights to make a splash, but do they have the balls to implement some compelling deals of their own.

Should be an interesting holiday season for sure.

Hmm I don't know... Maybe because the BC update comes out in november and the following month is december, which last time I heard that's when the holidays were.

My bad. I thought the update was already out.

Still, BC is NOT a system seller. Not even close.
