I'd trust him less with running the country after that, though it isn't a deal-breaker.

Now, his belief on the monarchy and God...pray tell, what are checks and balances, though?

In the same way, patriots can defend their country against threats, foreign or domestic, and I'd be damned if government wasn't an existential threat to their own countries.

If thats the case then write a new anthem. It evokes a sense of civic pride. Theres nothing wrong with that.

Well if you are an athiest republican and British then the British National Anthem is pretty much the worst song ever written. So I can understand someone like that refusing to sing a song that does not in any way reflect his/her vision for what Britain should be.

Politically though, if you harbour aspirations of prime ministership then it's probably a good idea to suck it up and sing the damned thing, even if you look like you've just sucked a lemon.

or hope that the queen will die soon, i think the monarchy will lose alot of fans when the old queen dies

Any National Anthem that has the word God in it, is like a prayer, so people should respect his stance on the subject.

i think the bigger problem is the word queen and not god

there is no god and everyone knows it. but there is a queen, and well shes not a good person.

The idea behind National Anthem's is silly ...

You don't show patriotism through singing a song, you show it by reciprocating the benefits ...

It's not always pleasing to the citizens either since it may not be to their preferences so promoting it does nothing ...

I'd wipe my ass with my country's flag if I ran out of toilet paper.

If I ever won the Tour de France I would bribe who ever responsible to play a Xenoblade Chronicles song at the podium ceremony instead of my national anthem.

Oh and this is funny, look at his face:

Then, 2 years later, this happened to the same cyclist:

Here's the Belgian Prime Minister who mistakingly sang the French National Anthem instead of the Belgian one. LOL, just the thing to do in a country where the language conflict between the Dutch and French is the biggest issue.

You don't believe in God or the monarch? Fine. Be a man though and sing the damn anthem. If you want it changed, surely as a leader of the opposition you have a voice and could work on changing it...

Seems a little childish, imo.

Do people normally sing anthems? I see tons of people stand, remove any head covering and stand silently at sporting events during anthems and no one thinks anything of it.
