A patent for shoulder buttons? Doesn't the Wii U already have those?

Around the Network

The potential for the platform that is the NX has a lot of strangeness to it, but this is sounding more like a blue ocean concept as previously mentioned

If it works this time, why not?

Rotating shoulder buttons... hentai games can do with those, nipple fondling comes to mind.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

One thing to like about this is it does seem "gamer focused". We're talking about a classic style controller here, and the idea of rotating shoulder buttons is not unlike switching from a digital d-pad to an an analog stick. Similar input, but with infinitely more input variations. Choose and select actions seem natural here. The mention of 1-hand use makes me think of it as also a way of making Wii-style games with more complex input.

good patent for the directional shoulder buttons. hopefully they'll incorporate it on a normal controller without a screen. as some nintendo fans are skeptical on a gamepad controller which pushes the console to have a high price point with lower hardware specs.

right.... who needs L1/R1 buttons... when you can just have scroll wheels there instead >_<'

*edit:

On secound thought might actually work okay for some stuff... like changeing weapons in shooters.

This looks like the handheld console machine for the NX, not the Wii U replacement.  Having said that, wouldn't put it past Nintendo to reuse the old parts they didn't use previously.
