Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why is the whole gaming journalism on Kojima's d***?

splinter cell chaos theory is better than any MGS, there, I said it.

What is that supposed to be?

The real question is why are questioning other people's opinions, because they don't match yours?

That seems to be the way it works.  If the reviewers like a game you like then the praise is deserved.  If they like a game you don't like then they're riding the creator's dick.  I don't think people stop to think about how ignorant and childish they sound.  I mean, bloody hell, that comes across as so incredibly dumb.  All these separate people, they're all "on Kojima's dick"?

It doesn't even make sense to me.  Shouldn't the thought process be, "maybe they have different tastes in games"?  Instead, it's "BLARG BLARG THEY'RE ON HIS DICK."  Just, seriously, UGH.  Why try to build rationalizations for opinions being different when you can just simply accept that they're different?

Maybe because they have mindset that because something is bad to them, it can't possibly be good.

There's two types of people, and very few between, those how want there hand held in a game but maybe feel as if they are being awesome from the scripted events and those who want an objective and the freedom to complete with as much breathing room as possible.

To love this game you need imagination, creativity and a willingness to plan and set your own goals.

This may be one of the most ground breaking games in terms of freedom and the sandbox concept, the engine is arguably the best on lighting and AI. Its ahead of its time and its something gamers are going to need to get used to, which will take time of course, because this, as well as the witchers narrative choice, are the future of video games.

The far cry series is up to its fourth iteration. This game feels like mgs far cry. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying mgsv. But groundbreaking is a bit much...

Far Cry? Really?

I came to this thread expecting a critique on how the media is talking about Kojima and not an overtly negative critique of his game(s). All I can say is that it might be a matter of taste, but both video game critics and people who played the Metal Gear franchise have highly praised the series.

So I'm sorry if I can't finish reading a pseudo-review -which I think this thread is supposed to be- that starts with an emphasis on the word "overrated" because honestly I don't think a thread like that could offer me a different perspective on a piece of entertainment that I've enjoyed.

I came into this thread expecting that as well.

The bolded is why it's praised highly. Sure the world is empty, there's a bunch of filler missions with the same objective and a bunch little annoyances, but the core gameplay is phenomenal.

By that logic, every Zelda game is flawless.

I took the core gameplay comment that the open world design and freedom in how to complete an objective is phenomenal. In a Zelda game, you are pretty much restricted in how to do something, like get an item or do a dungeon. With something like MGSV, you can go in guns blazing (which will likely result in you getting killed, since it is a game that emphasizes stealth), put everyone to sleep and Fulton them, or just sneak past everyone. It's a game that offers the players a choice in how they want to play, without enforcing a strict method on them. Do you want to shoot out a spotlight and raise the enemy's awareness that someone is there or do you just sneak past it when the light isn't fixated on you?

This is how i feel about GTA V. Open world games seem to be given more breaks by reviewers. Probably because they're deemed harder to make and larger in scale so it is harder to maintain a high quality throughout the game. But the fact reveiwers dont at least state the issues, even if they see them and forgive them, is anoying. They act as if they cant see the problems.

GTA V doesn't have any of the same problems. The world is filled with stuff to do, missions are varied and interesting, there are a lot of side missions and the game is generally a very high quality game.

To be fair, the first Zelda game that implemented what's come to be known as the "core gameplay" of 3D Zelda games (Ocarina of Time) is the highest rated game of all time, despite suffering some a few similar issues, such as a very empty world, fetch quests, and forced stealth section(s).

If more games had come out in the past that had combined stealth with an open world, chances are these flaws would get addressed more in reviews.

Honestly, if GTA V's missions can be called varied and interesting, than MGSV's are nothing short of edge of your chair riveting.

Sorry if you haven't played GTA V, but its missions are far more interesting (especially the heists) than the couple of hours I've played of MGS V.

And I will respectfully disagree. I found most of GTAV's missions (heists included) boring due to the lack of planning options and general linearity of it all. MGSV provides far more in the way of options in how you approach any given task, which, as someone who enjoys strategy, I'm all for.
