Forums - Gaming Discussion - Problems with Sony and Microsoft?

Sony - What they did to the VITA is comparable with the old SEGA. Just incredibly awful. Yes, ignore the poor thing. "we're market leaders, who cares about handhelds? We don't!!".

I understand that third parties are essential to have a successful console with a great library... But these two mofos (Sony and Microsoft) kissed third parties' asses so hard that they are also to blame for today's awful industry practices.

PlayStation also is guilty of becoming a pretty much western brand by now, and to me that's a problem.

Sony
  • Needs to build stronger relationships with second party devs instead of casting them off to the side all the time, Ready at Dawn was just the most recent and they've done this to multiple studios.
  • Needs to make PS Now more worthwhile. IMO it isn't worth the steep price if you're already paying for PS+
  • Needs to ackowledge the Vita's existence.
  • Needs to fix the PSN. I've had on and off issues on my PS3 since January.
Microsoft
  • Needs to expand first party offerings with new studios and build stronger relationships with second party devs.
  • Neess to match Plus' price with XBL Gold
  • Needs to focus on markets outside of the US and Canada. People won't give MS the time of day if they don't put any effort in.
  • Needs to utilize TEH CLOUDTM more. It took us how long to get Crackdown 3 after all the hype?
IMO I think both of them making their consoles HDMI only was a bad idea. Developing nations don't have access to HDTVs as much as Europe/US/Canada/Japan do. Both of them also need to not go all digital. It will not work.

I whole heartedly agree with this here.

Let's also point out some things with Nintendo.

- Needs to develop stronger relationships with 3rd party

- Make the online infrastructure stronger

- Reevaluate their eShop prices

- Listen to their fans more when it comes to console attributes (such as trophies/achievements, streaming, etc)

I love how people use this thread as an excuse to shit some more on Nintendo, lol.

Sony: they make you pay for online that gets ddosed every now and then, didn't support the Vita after the first year.
MS: same.

Some of the complaints are legitmate though. Just like the gripes on Sony and Microsoft.

And I can also criticize Apple if I want, but that would be off-topic.

Sony- PSN going down, Mediocre Exclusives, Small Controller, Announce games really early, Long E3s
MS- Dropped Kinect, Need more variety of games, Need to entice the European market more if they ever plan to win a generation.
And Nintendo is perfect the way they are.

Mediocre exclusives? Objectively they score higher and there are more of them, a lot more. Bloodborne is in contention for GOTY and Xbox has had NOTHING all year.

Announce games early? Are you delirious? I suppose Crackdown and QB were announced just on time? Double standards if I ever saw them.

The DS3 was small, DS4 is the right size..., unless you have gorilla hands, course most xbox users are a bit primitive...

Well Bloodborne is a solid game. Also Xbox got Rare Replay and Gears so far.

Well QB was announced 2013 compared to TLG which was announced around 2010.

Well DS4 is a solid controller indeed but i would like it a bit bigger. Bigger is better ;)

VGC has taught me that Remasters are despicable, irrelevant, dont count as games, dont exist, cero, nada.

Lol well this is the twilight zone.

Before I get to the main point, I'd just like to say that TLG is the exception, not the rule. Most PS games are announced closer to launch than most Xbox games, at least off the top of my head they are.

So, I've noticed a trend here on VGC that I'd like to address. Not just from you, or from Xbox fans or anything like that. but lately it seems that the cut off for what counts as a good game has gotten crazy high. In what world does a 90+ game just count as solid? Killzone: Shadow Fall is a solid game, Bloodborne is an excellent game. The other day someone one here said that an 80 on Metacritic wasn't a good score. That's insane to me and it seems to be coming all the more common to see that sentiment here on VGC.

Well imo bloodborne is solid compared to the last of us which is my favorite game last gen.

Looks like some people here still dont understand opinions and tastes in games. I own i guess one of those 59 exclusives? Idk, does the LoU port count? There are so many lists and definitions for exclusives.

Personally Sony hasnt given me anything to play this gen. Driveclub was pretty but the gameplay bored me. Tried Bloodborne, not my cup of tea. Will eventually try Until Dawn. We all know how The Order went.

Hope that helps.

There is a big difference between "no games" and "no games that fit my personal taste". The PS4 has a large number of exclusives that cover a wide range of styles and genres. The games are there.

We also know how Until Dawn went. Pretty well actually.

Good thing we're in a thread literally asking for people's personal criticisms for these companies. Otherwise someone could mistake my comment and get awfully defensive! I know Until Dawn was received well. Almost as well as I predicted. Too bad Sony priced it out of my logical purchase range.

Just out of curiosity. What was your logical purchase range?

For Until Dawn? Maybe $30. I might bite at $40 when it goes on a digital sale.
