I know my friend does stuff like that with his Xperia all the time. It works, they just don't reccomend people to do it.

They advertised its ability to be underwater... but tell people not to do it?

You don't see an issue there?

Yes... like those cars that can do 200mph but are advised to be used under 70mph.

Wow, terrible response.

The ability of this phone to function underwater is impressive. But dont make that your marketing campaign if you dont suggest people use it under water. That misleads people about what the product is for.

thats just BS, the roads and drivers in some countrys are just so bad that they shouldnt drive above 70 mph.

there arent that many cars that can drive 200mph, and i guess it isnt realy fun, you get very tired if you drive more than 130mph.

and i never seen any advice in a car or from a car maker that said it should be used under 70mph.  that comes from government of countrys with bad drivers and bad roads, and its quite usefull for those countrys

There is still a lot of cars that drive at 130mph, double the max limit in most countries...

And several cars that go from 130-200mph should have the advise because there is severe wear on the car and absurd amount of money to fix them.

All my cars had this advice on the Manual (have you ever read the manual of your car), about safe speed, following rules and not going to the max speed, etc

Don't know how is the ads for cars in your country, but in mine a lot of them are breaking law, driving unsafely, etc... and have advise to not do the same either on the propaganda or in the manual, do you know that?

Oh my God they are advising people not to use it under water while it's running because they never can be sure if the people are smart enough and check if all the flaps are closed properly and if they are using it the right way.
That's also the reason why they don't give warranty on water damage because in most cases it's probably just an operating failure

Okay... this is more of a debate about functionality versus safety.

All cars are great for being reckless, we see that regularly.

Sony marketed this phone as the under water phone, a feature most phones are not designed for. The marketing tells consumers, "Anyone looking for a phone that works under water, get this phone." The marketing doesn't say "keep out of water!"

Maybe the phone should have been marketed for being more water proof than most phones. That would be a different and less interesting market campaign, but also not misleading.

And you are ignoring that everybody here have safely used the phone underwater and that there were cases of bad use that led to faulty systems?? So the advise may be in that direction or you are just happy that you have an opportunity to bash Sony?

When it comes to Sony outside of Playstation, I get PLENTY of opportunities to bash them. :-p

Seriously though, I'm not bashing Sony. You're just sensitive to criticism towards Sony. Your bias is much stronger than any I have.

Bottom line, its not the underwater friendly device Sony has lead people to believe. According to the article the support page was updated because people were using the phone as advertised.

Its sort of sad how people in here aren't taking this too seriously. False advertising is simply not on. Those pictures used is a clear indication of a company trying to out do its competitors and that is simply lying. Sorry but if this was MS, I am sure there would be a lot of hate mail right about now, But its Sony, who cares, the phones good regardless attitude is why Corps try to get away with this all the time.

@bolded: What are you talking about? You are here hating on Sony, as you do every chance you get.

When you'll finally constantly criticize and downplay MS the way you do Sony, then maybe it will be possible to take the bolded part seriously.
