Forums - Sony Discussion - Sony: Don’t use waterproof Xperia phones underwater

I have used both my z1 and z3 plenty of times underwater (and even beer) without any issues. The sony smartwatch 2 however cannot stand several submersion in beer :/ that one doesn't have a very good ip rating though and really only protects against rainwater so I am the one to blame there

It's for legal reasons.

I LOVE ICELAND!

I've never feared water with my Z3. But I've never been stupid, either.

As a Sony Xperia Z1s user I've got the phone soaked (Playing heads up in the hot tub) and not had any issues with water damage. Other random crashes are another thing.

Sony phones dont sell well anyway so no big deal.

How does that even relate to the topic

It seems people with these phones can take pics underwater without problem. Now, the fact that they don't recommend it it's funny

Well its not a bid deal since not a lot of people own a sony phone compared to a galaxy or iphone user so it affects less people

If you don't want people to use the phone underwater, then why promote the phone with people using it underwater?

I don't need sales numbers of sony's phones to know that for people who bought them, this is actually a big deal, just because it's not for you doesn't mean it's the same for everyone.

99.x% of people that buys xperias don't care if other company sells better or not, the logic behind your comment is hilarious

Better yet, don't use or buy an Xperia device at all. Call Sony out on this half explicitived, BS brand, on the Me Too OS, and show them they have to make a worthwhile product for a respectible price if they want your business.

I had an Xperia Play, then an XZ, and finally an XZ3. All 3 were worthles, and the 3 worst investments I have ever made. Lucky, I got most of my money back on the Z and Z3. The XP, unfourtunatly, I just have to live with the regret and lost interest.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

I've taken several underwater pictures with my Z3 and it still works flawlessly. But I think if there is the slightest damage to any port covers or if a port cover isn't firmly in place then you will ruin your phone. So no doubt Sony is saying don't use the phone underwater because you can't be trusted to make sure all seals are fully in place.

At first I thought this was more of a precautionary statement than anything; because there do exist people who will sue for anything that they can. Sony doesn't want to be held accountable for mistakes a person may make. However, since Sony advertised the phone's underwater capabilities in the first place; yes they are definitely in the wrong. I am more interested in seeing whether or not the early advertising will be retracted
