- there are other alternatives though, like releasing black powder on the polar caps and they would absorb heat, smashing an asteroid into the poles (not a too far-fetched idea considering NASA previously considered catching one) which would heat the water there in the poles and release carbon dioxide.

- carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas helps prevent light from hitting the surface of a planet and going back to space and keeps thermal energy in the atmosphere, thus helping heat up the surface of a planet like Mars

- the average temperature on Mars is similar to that of Antarctica in the winter.

- nuking Mars would pose another problem, resulting radiation might make the planet uninhabitable or its native water unusable so there's that.

You know that's actually not a terrible idea. Sure it's not perfect and it needs a lot of work... But there's something there.

Even if you rebuild an atmosphere on Mars (it would take many years), you have to find a way for it to hold on to it. In other words, strengthen the magnetic field of the planet, and we don't know how to do that.

Believe it or not, terraforming Venus might be easier.
