Since Sony fans love using it as an excuse, guess ill use it as well. 3DS is also Nintys most expensive handheld.

What would Sony fans need to excuse? The PS4 not beating the competition by enough?

FYI the GBA launched at 150$ in 2001, which is the equivalent to 189$ in 2011 (3DS launch). The 3DS's price may have started out higher than that, at 249$, but in just 6 months, it's price was cut to 169$.

No their excusing its lackluster performance compared to previous market leaders. So you admit the 3DS launched higher?

I honestly don't know anymore if 3DS will hit even 70 million LTD.

These numbers for the US market are very weak, but next year is going to likely be far worse.

Exactly.  Price isn't the 3DS's issue.  As much as I hated to admit it at the start of the gen, the 3DS and Vita both have suffered from the shrinking HH market.  Casuals are switching to phones and tablets.

The denial is strong in this one... Even after 2 years into the console war.

Some people were expecting a bigger gap between the two but it seems that wasn't the case so it seems people overestimated things.

Lol, the only reason the gap isn't larger is because MS is constantly having to do deals for XBO, some even looking like Black Friday deals, even though they already have a $50 advantage.  Now, what is going to happen when Sony finally decide to give the PS4 a pricecut?  Or if they were matching MS's deals like for like?  I'll give you the answer, the gap would be much larger.  Just watch the gap in Sept. with the new Destiny bundle.

I have been thinking of this for a while, but have not put any effort into reserch :p

But as I recall, this year( well I guess you can say since last holliday) I dont reall any month in wich the xbox did not have some kind of deal. And the only month it won iin the US was cuz they where ofering like $150 to trade in your 360(and/or ps3, Im not sure) for an x1. And everybody had the x1 on lockdown last month due to the insane $500 for a 40"+x1 bundle, gears and rare replay where also bonuses for the month and still the x1 lost.

I think the x1 would be selling worse than the wii u where it not for all the constan deals.

If anyone can remember all the diferent deals they have had alng this year alone, it could really shine a light into this.

I wouldn't go that far, but I'm sure it would have sold 50K-75K less than it has been if it weren't for the crazy deals.  And they're going to have to continue doing them if they want to stand any chance against even a $349 PS4.

Sticker price matters more than inflation. People form opinions and have ideas of what a product is worth. No one is going to go into a store, look at a $500.00 game console and go "You know what? That's fucking expensive but, given inflation, it's about right. I think I'll buy it." They simply don't do that.

$299.99 is STILL the sweet spot for a game console just as it was for the PS2. It's up the big three to figure out a way to make their products great and get them out at that price or convince us that the added inflation costs are worth it. The burden is not on us to adjust for inflation.

@Don I'm really sure you are talking about TheDrill. If you don't get the point, then it's fine then.

I also think someone here on this thread is forgetting that there are bundles from Sony as well like TLOU bundle and others.

Proud to be a Californian.

Yeah, I think I am pretty much expecting PS4>X1>Wii U
although, I must say that Microsoft has been making the battle for America at least somewhat interesting.

What in the world are you talking about? The GBA launched at $100. Just $135 in 2015 dollars.
