Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Do you think the WiiU still has a chance of topping the game catalogue of the Wii, do you think it already did, or that it can't? Wii Vs WiiU thread

Which console seems to position itself with a history of better software?

Wii 35 20.23%

WiiU 59 34.10%

Can't say yet, WiiU's life is not over yet 40 23.12%

No matter what's left fo... 25 14.45%

Can't decide until I play Zelda WiiU and XCX 11 6.36%

Tie 3 1.73%

Total:173

Wii U still has some life left with some upcoming games, including the fan awaited Zelda game and Xenoblade Chronicles X (if you don't live in Japan), but still there's the fact that the NX is breathing heavy behind the WiiU's neck, saying: "Move bitch, get out the way!"

So maybe WiiU still has some heavy hitters left, even after the NX announcement, but it is very apparent that the shift of focus from Nintendo towards their next console is inminent, and Nintendo pretty much carries their consoles with their software.

So this thread invites Nintendo fans to reflect on both the videogames that the Wii got, the WiiU got and still has left and to say which console, the Wii or the WiiU has had in your opinion a more satisfactory videogame library at this point in time.

Do you think the WiiU has not topped Wii's library? The Wii overall line-up is superior to that of the WiiU?

Do you think the WiiU still has a chance to outdo the Wii's line-up? That the upcoming games for the WiiU can be a game-changer?

Maybe you think the WiiU has already surpassed what the Wii offered?

What do you think?

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

The wii just has so many hidden gems that were overlooked. All the Wii us good games are out in the open, and had iterations on the wii.
So no, the wii u can never beat the wii imo

I'll let you know in a year from now

the wii is better by far. i miss madworld like games...

Serious question, can you name me some? because really the only gems I played were zelda games, mario galaxy games and the last story.

I don't have a Wiiu but to me it seems like the catalogue is far superior compared to its predecessor

When it comes to strictly first party support, I think it'll be fairly even.
When comparing each Nintendo franchise on both systems side by side, what I feel is:
(Wii vs. Wii U)
Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 >> Super Mario 3D World

New Super Mario Bros. Wii < New Super Mario Bros. U

Mario Kart Wii < Mario Kart 8

Super Smash Bros. Brawl < Super Smash Bros for Wii U

Donkey Kong Country Returns < Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

And that's for the ones that both systems have received.
As for the Wii 1st party lineup:

It had Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Punch-Out!!, a console mainline Animal Crossing game (City Folk), a console Paper Mario, (Super Paper Mario), a console Fire Emblem game, (Radiant Dawn - and no SMTxFE doesn't count).

HOWEVER:
The Wii U has some games that the Wii didn't, like:
A new Star Fox game, Pikmin 3, Hyrule Warriors, Super Mario Maker, and the soon incoming SMTxFE. So it has some titles of there own in its favor. Oh, and of course, Splatoon!

As for games the Wii U will eventually get, that the Wii already has, we'll have to wait and see.
Zelda Wii U, I know will be amazing and one of my favorites on the system. However, it's going to take A LOT, for a Zelda game to top Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword for me (Especially, Skyward Sword.)

Xenoblade Chronicles X has a better chance, as I'm loving what I've been seeing from that game, and I absolutely loved Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii. Based on my 1st impressions of never having played X, I'll say those 2 will be tied, for now. I'll get back to you on that comparision after I've beaten X... which may take quite a while.

So in conclusion, for now, the Wii still holds the edge (1st party of course), but it may change once it's all said and done.

The Wii U is already a lot better than the Wii's line-up of shovelware.

Only Wii games I liked:

- Metroid Prime 3: first game I bought on my Wii.
- Mario Kart Wii: not as good as DD though.
- Super Mario Galaxy: great game, but I never got the sequel because my anxiety disorder was hitting me in full force back then.
- Xenoblade Chronicles: probably the best Wii game, but I only got to play this because it's on eshop of the Wii U and it plays much better on the gamepad than on a HD tv.
- Twilight Princess: my first and one of my favorite Zelda games.

Games I like on my Wii U:

Mario Kart 8: better than Mario Kart Wii.
Super Mario 3D World
Yoshi's Woolly World
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze: best 2D platformer ever.
Wind Waker HD: if TP counts, so does this! Never played this one before and it's great and gorgeous.
Splatoon: one of the best shooters I've ever played.
Captain Toad: my "least liked" liked game if that makes sense.
Batman: Arkham City
Pikmin 3: great game and I got it for free as well.

Upcoming games I will most likely like a lot:

- Zelda U
- Super Mario Maker
- Pokken Tournament
- Genei Ibun Roku #Fe
- Xenoblade Chronicles X
- Yooka-Laylee

Well it's subjective, as often a few of these games got middling reviews, but to me there were a few that I really enjoyed.

Godfather, fragile dreams, Pandora's tower, no more heroes series, a boy and his Blob, trauma centre series, rabbids go home, madworld, overlord, klonoa, Sakura wars, battalion wars ect.

I could list more, some are niche and divisive, but all these accompanied the standard nintendo games. The Wii u lacks all these extra titles.

I definitely prefer the Wii U's lineup, even just looking at the games currently released.

For me, my favorite games on the Wii were the Galaxy games, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, Skyward Sword and Kirby's Epic Yarn. I haven't played the Wii version of Xenoblade Chronicles but it's not too different from the 3DS version, so I can add that as well. I'll top the list off with the Metroid Prime Trilogy. All great games.

In contrast, for the Wii U I've loved the Bayonetta games, Pikmin 3, Splatoon, The Wind Waker HD, The Wonderful 101, ZombiU, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Hyrule Warriors and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker. I prefer 3D World to the Galaxy games, Mario Kart 8 to Mario Kart Wii, Smash Bros. Wii U to Brawl. Not to mention the upcoming games that I'm looking forward to such as Fatal Frame V, Super Mario Maker, Yoshi's Woolly World, Xenoblade Chronicles X, Star Fox Zero, Genei Ibun Roku #FE, Pokken Tournament and of course, Zelda U.

In short: I enjoyed the Wii for what it was, but despite its smaller library, I do feel that the Wii U appeals more to my personal taste.

The Wii U has already surpassed the Wii in my opinion. Only just. But with Mario Maker, Xenoblade and Zelda, it'll absolutely be the better of the 2.
Of course that's bearing in mind that a few of the Wii's gems like Twilight Princess and Xenoblade Chronicles are available on other platforms. If those 2 had been entirely exclusive, the Wii might just win it.
