Well imo they now have the best line of cellphones in the industry. Their battery life and camera has always been superb plus the fact that they are waterproof. I hate trying to protect my smartphone everytime a raindrop falls from the sky and sony phones take awesome underwater photos too. I currently have the Samsung S4 mini and while I liked it a lot in the beginning, in the last couple of months samsung with her stupid policies of purposely leaving their mini series behind their "flagships" has made me regret my decision. My phone while capable of handling the 5.0 Lollipop won't be getting it at all. Sony is the only company that makes it's compact series comparable in specs to it's flagships and I actually want a cellphone sized cellphone so I'll definetly be getting one down the line.

The poll is lacking the option 'Too comfortable with my Xperia'. I just got an Xperia Z3 Compact in January, I think, and I'm perfectly happy with it. Was cheaper too.

But when I do buy a new one, it probably will not be Sony. It definitely won't be Apple or Samsung. Today you can get a cheap Chinese clone for a quarter of the price. Those might be a bit worse, but as long as they run simple utility apps (banking, parking, youtube...) they are good enough. My wife just got one for €100 and it is definitely acceptable and fully functional.

i'm pretty impressed with the premium chinese phones.. i have a one plus one as secondary phone and its great. My 16gb version was 300 dollars a year ago but you can get the 64gb version for that price now.. i also had a few cheaper chinese ones, they were good, much better then what samsung and co offer as budget range.. Specs are like twice better.. i would definitely go with a Chinese phone again next time when i replace my secondary phone.

and yet the general consumer doesn't care.

The general consumer obviously doesn't, but the premium one, the guy or girl ready to fork out 700 USD/Euro or more for a phone do. It's all about bragging.

Personally I'll never pay more than 200 euro for a phone anymore, the HW of the middle range phones is more than capable to run anything. The only reasons to upgrade is because the OS support gets cut out in no time and I like to have the latest OS (while I know people that don't even know what OS version they are running).

4K takes more battery life with little benefit on mobile devices....

YAY?

That was the main concern. It seems Sony managed to fix even that. Or at least so they claim.

I'm still trying to figure out why LG/Google thinks my 5inch display needed 1080p....

Which is weird, cuz when I was teaching in China more than half of my students had i-phones and that's all would talk about in their presentations. I think there were one or two who would proudly mention they have a chinese phone, but that was it.

The general public don't care for resolution, Apple and Samsung will always be the 1st and 2nd choices to many around the world. Which is the sad part about humanity, Sony, HTC and MS make great smartphones and are actually better equipped then the leading brands but will never take the market by storm because brand power overshadows quality. Same can be said for a lot of things.

All Sony or any one needs to do is spend the billions Ppoe or Samsung spends on advertising if getting the general public involved is what they want to do when it comes to smartphones. The general public doesn't really Carr about tech when it comes to smart phones. they just wanna get that phone their friend has or that they keep seeing on TV. simple as that.

ow thats the "status" thingy in china.. Chinese people aren't that proud of their own products.. having expensive "western" stuff = status.. even when its made in China.. Have you been to an Apple Store in China? its crazy busy.. I mean.. they think Heineken is a premium beer just because its more expensive and from the west while in the Netherlands its like average beer..

Sony started featuring Xperia during Champions League, it's on the scoreboard all the time.

I'm not sure how much it will help, though. It's not like PlayStation would have done poorly without CL sponsorship.

And yet if I ask around some people may not even know what Xperia stands for. Those scoreboards are a waste of money if they don't show the profuct. Here in Italy on television is always Samsung and Apple (even more Samsung than Apple). I don't remember a single Xperia tv commercial. Some LG. Now Huawei is going strong on tv. The commecial is well done and I actually felt like I wanted one.

I think Sony should use for Xperia the same marketing company they have got for PS4 if they want to sell. At launch they simply did a brilliant job.
