Forums - General Discussion - I have a question for Europeans on VGC.. How do you feel about the current migrant crisis?

The migrant crisis in Europe is dominating the news right now.  I just wanted to know what people in Europe thought about the whole ordeal.  Are you concerned with the amount of migrants?  Are you afraid of wages being suppressed by people willing to work for less than you make?  Are you concered about the ability of your government to bare so many people? Would you only be willing to accept people displaced by war and deport those only there for economic reasons?  I could ask a billion more questions but I just want your thoughts on the topic.

There are pictures now showing up of many dead in back of semi trucks (happens a decent amount in USA with Mexican/Central America immigrants).  There is now a picture of a young dead boy on the beach in Turkey.  I see the extreme right rising in Europe (anti-Muslim/Neo Nazis).  I believe people can only accept so many people from another region before they start getting angry and fearful about the strain on government and their way of life.

Don't they processes like America has in Europe? What happens when you illegally enter a country there?

Whatever country they arrive in first is supposed to process them.  There is whole debacle in Hungary right now with them trying to stop them boarding trains bound for Austria and Germany (countries they want to move onto).  Hungary is building a wall and wants to process them first and determine if they are really war refugees or economic migrants.  Hungary is trying to argue there are more economic migrants than real refugees coming to Europe.  This is what I have gathered from BBC news.

And where are these migrants coming from that is so horrible? Is that war in the Ukraine with Russia still going on? Or is this something else?

Ukraine shit is still going on.  They are supposedly coming from Syria, Africa (Libya), and other countries USA has invaded (hint: Iraq and Afghanistan).

Meh, not too worried. It'll calm down eventually.

You think the Middle East will calm down?  That is laughable.

I'm talking about the migration waves. This isn't the first time we have a big migrant crisis in Europe, nor will it be the last. As long as the European governments don't bury their heads in the sand or resort to running around like decapitated ducks and instead work together and do something constructive for a change, things will be fine. eh, doesn't bother me. I don't mind immigrants moving here. Not worried about them undercutting on jobs since they often don't have the qualifications for high paid jobs and for the low paid jobs, well that's why the minimum wages exists.

I was actually wondering if Europe had min wages and just looked it up on wiki.  Seems like for most major countries in Europe the min is far above the federal min wage in USA.  Many states/cities have raised it past the federal here considering the federal ($7.50 per hour) is not a livable wage.

Migrants? I thought it was a refugee thing?
