Sony's latest portable console Vita hasn't being doing hot at all on sales, especially compared to it's predecessor the PSP, and I don't even want to mention Nintendo's seemingly untouchable handhelds.

So I was wondering whether Vita's performance would affect or not the mind of the higher ups at the Sony gaming division when opting to continue at having ago at the handheld market with another portable console.

I think Sony will release another console, but who knows? I would like to know what you guys think.

If you think that Sony will release a follow up to the Vita, when do you think this could be happening? The announcement and/or the release year.

Also, since Vita has not performed so well, what do you think Sony could do to make their next handheld present better sales?

I see no reason why they would make another handheld considering the Vita failed and the handheld marketshare has decreased because of phones and tablets.

No more Sony handhelds after Vita. They should just ride out the lucky streak of having some developers willing to make games for it, and keep it alive hooked to machines for as long as it takes.

They shouldn't bother: phones are here ready to claim the mobile gaming space and if some internet speculation is right about the NX, it would suggest Nintendo knows this.

The PSP was amazing and had alot to offer so I hope they don't give up after 1 disappointment in the Vita which was doomed due to their own faults.

Simply put, I don't think that Sony will follow up with the Vita. It obviously didn't pan out the way they wanted it too. As evidence by them not mentioning it ever. Creating a successor would just detract from what they are completely focused on right now and that is the PS4 and other things like PS Vue and Now.

If by some crazy act they do create one my bet is that they make it a Japan exclusive or something. But even that's doubtful. MH jumping ship really hurt the Vita bad in Japan and prominent 3rd parties (such as Capcom and SE) didn't bite as well, making the situation worse (not to mention the memory card issue).

I am curious as to how Sony will react to people asking about the "next one" though. My guess is that they will stay vague on the issue the and just let the Vita be supported by niche games and indies until that dries up then no more.
