Forums - Gaming Discussion - I'm On Chapter 11 Of MGS5 ... When Does It Start Being Fun?

Finally someone who thinks like me. I thought I was alone in the world.

I'm on chapter 8 and I'm pretty much giving up on the game. I'm not sure what's happening, but I feel like they screwed up everything that made Peace Walker good. Even the mother base management (one of my favorite things in PW) is boring in the new game. TPP reminds me why I love games like Deus Ex (1 and HR) and Fallout 3. Those games have good stealth (Deus Ex) and a huge open world (Fallout 3) and they actually do it right. The Phantom Pain feels like a poor man's Far Cry. Far Cry 3 and 4 did it so much better. I think it gets high scores basically because of Hideo Kojima.

Snake doesn't speak. Yes, he speaks in tapes, but I would prefer if he could at least interact with some other people. He can only punch his comrades. I hate the world in the game, it's empty and repetitive. All the missions are the same, just changing names and places, but all the places look the same. It feels like work. The story is minimum and uninteresting. I love the crazy plot twists of MGS3 and MGS2 and I was seriously expecting that when I started MGSV. Everytime I have to move from a side op to another and I realize I have to walk more than 2000 km, I feel like turning the console off. As I said, the world is empty, there's nothing to do between the bases, I feel like they don't even know how open world games work. I would enjoy the game much more if I could just fast travel from a mission to another without being punished (the helicopter is not free), just like in Peace Walker.

Getting S ranks is actually easy. But it's so boring that just the thinking of doing it 50 times makes me want to kill myself.

It probably gets better, I hope it gets better. But it's so bad, boring and frustrating that I don't have will to keep playing.

Around the Network

I'm sorry, did you actually put MGS and fun in the same sentence?

There IS a fast travel system. You take the delivery stickers off the red platforms, then get in a box and wait. This brings up a menu to fast travel to any other platforms you've taken the stcker from.

It doesn't change the fact it's lifeless and boring though.
