. Why is it difficult for people to accept change?

Simple solution - fire her! Surely she can get a job at that wedding cake store in Indiana.

Divine authority, huh. Dangerous stuff.

Oh, ffs...

Because religion/conservatism (I'm only conflating the terms because they're so damned intertwined in the US right now) are all about keeping up traditions and the status quo. "Change" is obviously the opposite of that. If their whole belief system is rooted in "keep things how they are", then moving forward is obviously something that's hard for them to do.

To people who don't follow that way of thinking, accepting change/progress just seems like the logical thing to do. But to those entrenched in traditional beliefs, "change" is an enemy to their entire identity.

Off to the unemployment line with her!

It's funny because I read that she has been divorced four times... She's doing a bang up job at defending the sanctity of marriage.

I added a video of her to the OP

I have to agree here. Funny thing is the guy who approached her in the video had been with his man for 17 years.

He then says that her motion for a stay of execution was denied by the actual Supreme Court (as in she has no where to take her claim).   She then claims that she is not acting on the court's authority but rather 'God's Authority'.  So when you mentioned her 4 marriages, its really is amazing that she can actually bring herself to pass judgement on others.   It fasinates me because I wonder how people make the mental connections that allow them to divorce 4 times and then claim the authority to deny others.

Or, what should have been done the day she first refused to acknowledge same-sex marriages: reshuffle her into a different clerical position where she wouldn't have been at odds with her beliefs. Problem solved with at worst one day delay for all those implicated

At first glance I read this as "Clark Kent Denies Same-Sex Marriage Licenses" and though about his previous bouts of Super Dickery. On topic, if this clerk is failing to uphold the law she shouldn't be allowed to work for the government, simple as that. Also, if it is true that she has been divorced four times then she is a disgusting hypocrite.
