Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why do you / others get hyped for game sequels in a game series you've never played before?

As the title says, Why do you or others get hyped about sequels when they never played the games in the series before the upcoming sequel?

I know poeple who were crazy about the hype for Witcher 3 and they had never even heard of the Witcher series before the hype for the 3rd started, Iv'e also seen poeple massivly hyped for MGS 5 without playing a MGS game before. There is plenty more examples I could of used but theese are 2 of the big more recent releases.

If a new sequel comes out and the hype is real and iv'e not played the series I have always gone back and played the origionals up to the current sequel and I could never just jump into a game series without starting from the beggining.

So do you get hyped for sequels in series you never played?

If the trailer looks impressive and hits the right spots, I will get hyped even if I never played another game in the franchise before

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

That hasn't really happened with me so far!

Shenmue 3.  The first two came out for Dreamcast and never really sold that well.  People that can't even spell it (one guy called it Shamue) were going crazy!!

Maybe that sequel comes to the West while the original stayed in Japan.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

When I was younger, I didn't follow games as actively as I do now. So I missed out on quite a few franchises. So if a new game in an established series is announced, and it is in a genre I like, and it looks good, I will get some hype for it. For example, Star Ocean V.

Otherwise it will be because I didn't have the system for it. Like the Witcher series, I wanted to play the other games, but not enough to get a good PC or an Xbox 360. So when it came to PS, I was instantly hyped.

Because the game looks good, this is like asking why one would be excited for a new IP/

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

Rarely. I got excited about Metal Gear Solid on PS1 despite never playing Metal Gear on NES because the game itself looked so ambitious.

Been exicited for a new IP is a completely different thing.

Jumping in on a 2nd or 3rd installment when the story is unfolded in the previous games and is more about tieing up and finshing the story is completely different that been hyped to see the start or a new universe and characters and how it will unfold in a new IP.

Hmm, I see your point, well I'll explain my thinking when this happens:

'Hmm wow this game looks really good, I didn't like the look of the others so I didn't play them but this shit looks sick as fuck'
Usually in the new gen knowing the story isn't vital to enjoying the game, you can hop in on Uncharted and enjoy it at any game.
