Forums - Gaming Discussion - Should EA continue to ignore Nintendo?

Of course, one of the more interesting moments earlier in the WiiU's life was the rise and fall of the "unprecedented partnership" between EA and Nintendo.

A handful of WiiU launch titles later, EA let it be known they didn't have anything new planned for WiiU - while also being mum on any releases for 3DS. For the next two years, EA quietly put out FIFA releases on Wii and 3DS, before putting out "legacy" editions on Wii and 3DS last year.

In effect, 2015 marks the first year there are truly no EA releases on Nintendo platforms. And at this point, EA has now defined the model of ignorance of the Nintendo platform. Say what you will of other 3rd parties that have come and gone, some will at least release some of their smaller-scale titles, and they at least post sales and pricecuts now and then. EA on the other hand will gladly charge you $60 for the nearly 3 year old Need for Speed: Most Wanted- a game they gave away for free on PS Vita earlier this year. The sadder thing is that this is newest game EA's released on the WiiU, and you can't even find it on EA's official website!

You could say I'm beating a dead horse here. We've known for awhile EA flew the roost a long time ago with no clear intention of coming back in the slightest. But it's outright pathetic that EA couldn't figure out a single recent title that would have any commercial potential on either WiiU or 3DS. You could say there isn't any, but the truth is - you'd be wrong. Given the incredible success of Splatoon, would it not make sense to release PvZ: Garden Warfare to the WiiU? If Tomodachi Life could be a hit on 3DS, why couldn't a new Sims game? If Guitar Hero Live could come to WiiU, why couldn't Rock Band 4? And let's not kid ourselves: Fifa 16 on WiiU at this point would sell remarkably better on the WiiU now than many other it did at launch or the other 'legacy' editions.

While EA is far from being anyone's favorite publisher,  they make a solid game now and then. It's a shame to see EA and Nintendo not get *something* together. You have to wonder if there's problems in what they were asking of eachother - or if they even were communicating and collaborating together in the first place.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

EA cancelled at 100% completed Crysis 3 that was ready to be shipped and everything. It makes me wonder what their motive is with all this shit? They couldn't even ship out a completed game? They straight up say NO to a few extra bucks, but FOR WHAT? Like you said, they don't have NFS listed on their website. WHY? im sure they have some copies to sell. There seems to be something deeper going on. Something that causes EA to not take any money resulting from a Nintendo product whatsoever. What is the motive??

Eh. Like, if the NX is successful, they'll be back. They don't have anything against Nintendo outside of a lackluster product that didn't sell.

nobody likes ea anyway

The motive is it wouldn't have sold, and EA would have lost more money than if they had released it. Just like the fully complete localization of Earthbound Beginnings that never came out. No hidden motive. Just an obvious motive: money.

EA Kojima'd Nintendo before it was cool.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

It would be sincerely hilarious if the NX turned out to be a phenomenal success and Nintendo decided to ignore EA.

See here's a Wii U similarity with the Dreamcast!

I'd love to know more about what went down between Nintendo and EA in 2012. I understand it was a dispute over Origin being the online system on Wii U?

How should EA loose money with an already finished game?

Crysis 3 would had sell easily 100-300k on wii u (like similar aaa titles).

Even if we say just 100k. Ea would probly make 20 bucks profit per sold game (rest taxes and all the other stuff).

100k x 20bucks = 2mil.

How should they pay more then 2mil to release the game? Doesnt make any sense at all.

Sierra cancelled a 100% completed port of Half Life 2 for Dreamcast. Apparently they made more money from the tax relief in cancelling it than they would have got from releasing the game.

And a console exclusive (and upgraded) port of Half Life would have been a much bigger deal than Crysis 3. Especially with the exclusive add on pack (Blue Shift).

I wonder if EA figured something similar. Or if there really is such bad blood between them and Nintendo at the moment that they'd cut off their nose to spite their face.
