Forums - Gaming Discussion - Find Your Video Game Soul Mate

With video game publications and critics unreliable and inconsistent, it's difficult to find a trustworthy source for gaming recommendations. I can't tell you how long (and how fruitlessly) I've scoured gaming websites, looking for a voice whose tastes match my own.

This forum, I believe, can be a venue to make those connections and find people with similar tastes who can recommend titles and genres worth playing.

With that said, have at it! Let us know what games and genres you love, and which you'd rather leave unexplored. Do you like online multiplayer? Local co-op? Dungeon crawlers? Flight sims?

As you read the responses, connect with each other. Maybe there are a few people on this site you've never met who share the same perspectives and opinions on gaming. VGChartz is an amazing resource - let's use it!

So I've been lucky to find my gaming twin. This handsome devil:

No, not Patrick J. Adams! TruckOSaurus!

But here are my stats anyway :)

Favorite games: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Deus Ex, Halo: Combat Evolved, Resident Evil 4, Final Fantasy VI, Half-Life 2
Favorite series: The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, Metroid, Halo, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, Castlevania
Favorite genres: Action-adventure, RPG, platformer, shooter
Favorite game makers: Shigeru Miyamoto, Hideo Kojima, Hidetaka Miyazaki, Michel Ancel, Hironobu Sakaguchi, Warren Spector

I'm mostly a single-player guy, although I also love local co-op games. Online multiplayer is my least favorite, but it can still be a lot of fun - especially with games like Halo, Mario Kart, and, most recently, Splatoon.

I prefer games with deep single-player experiences, high replay value, and, if possible, local multiplayer options. Story and high-end graphics aren't super important to me.

Miscellaneous: I like Uncharted 1 & 2, but not Uncharted 3. I like Killzone (PS2) more than Killzone 2 & 3. I enjoy the Zelda DS games. I wish 3D platformers would make a comeback. I love every Halo game (including Wars) except for Halo 4. I adore "Metroidvania" games.

My gaming has really taking a nose dive. I now play few and far between (work). When i do though madden, battlefield 3, and maybe uncharted are the usual suspects. I plan on picking up battlefront and uncharted thieves end but thats about it. Few things interest me these days.

EVERY GAMERS WORST NIGHTMARE...THE TANGLING CABLES MONSTER!

I'm disappointed. I came in here expecting to find the perfect waifu.

I already found a "Brother in Games" here. But he switched forums for another site sometime ago and we don't cross ways often anymore.

But let me join it.

Favorite games: The Legend of Dragoon, The Last of Us, Shadow of the Colossus, Red Dead Redemptiom, Final Fantasy 12.
Favorite series: Disgaea, Diablo, Souls, Gran Turismo, Final Fantasy, God of War, Pokemon, Crash Bandicoot, Metal Gear Solid.
Favorote genres: RPG (specially JRPG), Adventure, Hack and Slash, some Action.
Favorite systems: PS systems, like both old Sega and Nintendo too.

I'm a single player guy, love good adventure games and the feeling of progression while playing (that's why I love RPGs so much and don't care for most multplayer approaches. Story matters a lot to me.

Started with Sega, went to PlayStation and stayed there, while also playing some Nintendo here and there with friends and on handheld.

Misc: Still hoping to see a Sonic game as fun to play as the when Sega was a console/handheld maker.

"Brother in Games"...I love that!

Good stuff here. I'm with you on the single player philosophy. For me, nothing beats a grand adventure with that feeling of progression, discovery, and achievement.

OnlySP is a site dedicated to video games that are only single player, or the single player elements of games.

I respect Game Informer highly.

As for myself...

My gaming tastes have changed over time.

I like quite a variety, but 'Western' mainly.

I don't 'get' the Horror genre, and that goes for films aswell.

I buy FIFA annually (gets riot shield ready :O)

I like action-adventure, both linear (Last of Us, The Order) and open world (Batman Arkham, GTA)

I don't mind shooters (prefer BF multiplayer over cod these days). And I enjoy the single player campaigns, they're quite good!

Story is really important for most games. I like polished graphics and I have been put off rough looking games. I don't place too much importance on 'advanced gameplay', whatever that is. I just like working, refined, polished mechanics.

I am excited for VR and AR.

I have an own- built gaming PC but I haven't used it in ages, I sometimes play strategy games on my laptop.

I like racing games but in recent times I've not liked the arcade racers where you have to drift around corners.

I collect trophies/achievements but I don't have a mad obsession.

I get most hyped for new AAA IP (don't we all).

I find traditional, what I call 'gamey' games boring. Such as Destiny, Evolve.

And the most controversial of all. I don't like the Witcher 3, I think the combat is clunky, things seem overcomplicated. I actually stopped playing (~5 hours in) as I didn't know what I had to do next. Graphics and story are good though.

PS, PS2, Gameboy Advance, PS3, PSP, PS4, Xbox One

Yeah, a good adventure is priceless. I really have to give 3D Zeldas a go as I tried sometime ago, I'm pretty sure it's my kind of games.

I think you'd like them, based on your list. Lots to do and discover; huge boss battles; a good mix of combat, exploration, and problem solving; NPCs; towns; light RPG elements; etc.
