Forums - Gaming Discussion - Next-Gen AppleTV Will Have Motion Remote, Play Games (?)

http://9to5mac.com/2015/08/30/apple-tv-4-200-october/

Slated to be announced on Sept. 9th alongside the new iPhone 6S is a new AppleTV that will be a huge upgrade to device as Apple takes aim at making inroads on the TV/living room market.

The new Apple TV will supposedly be powered by a dual core Apple A8 processor, with graphics comparable to the PS3/360 and will retail for $150-$199 with a Apple remote that has motion controls, a touch sensor, and buttons built into it though this is not confirmed (we'll find out on Sept. 9th).

I don't see it being a direct competitor to the PS4/XB1 per se, but still Apple moving more strongly in this direction could be a shot across the bow for sure.

If it's $150 I'll probably get one. I'm moving back to iPhone after a few years with Samsung Galaxy phones.

A8 processor comes in two variants. A8 (dual core) and A8x (triple core). We don't know which one Apple TV will have.

Edit:

Correction, upon further reading, turns out there are 3 variants on 3 different devices. The most recent iPod has an underclocked version of the A8.

With power supply not being an issue, Apple could overclock the A8X for more power.  We can also expect an always-on, always-listening Siri since limited batteries isn't an issue that needs those kind of compromises.

This is basically what I think Nintendo should do with NX, an affordable $150-200 console that is slightly more powerful than Wii U with an easily accessible, cheap to produce controller.

I've been saying that Nintendo will most likely be going head to head with Apple/Amazon rather than Sony/Microsoft. They need to win over this market that's a middle ground between mobile & consoles before it's taken over by others.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Apple is appropriating from the idea of multimedia system that have games. The difference here is while x1/ps4 are gaming consoles with multimedia this will be multimedia box with games. And that cuts all the possible market Sony/ms could have of people looking to use their systems as media centers first and gaming second( if such market ever existed, really).

They have no chance against Apple directly. Sony can't carry Apple's jock, so if you're struggling against Sony, you're not going to have a good time against Apple.

I would actually like to see Apple give console gameing a try.

Anyone that invests in that market will fail. There are already a lot of players doing just that and different variations of said middle ground. But the same problems still plague them all. People serious about HDTV console gaming, probably already have mobile phones. They aren't buying a console to okay last gen looking or mobile games on their TVs. they want a proper gaming console. MS focused on that last gen and crippled Sony's market hold on the console industry. Song went back to focusing on that this gen and are leading.

Sometimes, the wheel doesn't need to be reinvented. If I were apple, u would made a Mac mini console. with a console OS that allows it run standard Mac OS apps, iOS apps and a HDTV centric UI. price its at $5-$600 as a premium product. even with $1000 options and gurabtee BC for the lifetime of the platform. And they will ultimately give PlayStation a run for its money down the road.
