I'd love to know what kind of margins we're looking at with all the consoles, even last gen. The PS4 remaining strong despite not dropping in price has to be good for SCEI's bottom line. Is it possible that the PS4 makes the most profit per console?

Is that even a question? MS has a more expensive build cost,  but sells for less and bundles more. PS4 also has approximately the same attache rate and will have morpheus early next year.  Nintendo said they would lose money with any price cut.

Of course it's a question, it even has a question mark on the end.

As for the Xbox One having a more expensive build, I would need to see a source for that, as it generally uses cheaper components.  Some data for the "bundles more" comment would also be appreciated.

I mean, that's great and all, but it's being cancelled out by the insane amount of losses they are taking from their failing smartphone division.

This means nothing if Sony as a company aren't reaping profitable tangible benefits from it, and their smart phones are stopping that from happening.

I know it feels nice to isolate a specific instance of good news from wider context, but wider context still exists, and makes articles like this disingenuous. Gaming divisions are not just made up of home consoles and companies are not just made up of one division. Comparing the profits of one product from one division of one company to one division of one division of another company without at all referencing the surrounding context of each is shoddy writing. It's exactly one of the reasons why people think gaming journalists are so untrustworthy and write with a biased agenda. Lack of relevant context.

Also, the XBO didn't drop from $499 to $349. It's still $499. With Kinect. The unbundling of the Kinect was not a price drop, just like Sony releasing a $300 PS4 with only 32GB of internal storage wouldn't be a price drop. It's a different product. Not a fair comparison at all, so shoddy writing there as well.

Wow playstation doing well. The Xbox growth is nice. Nintendo seems to fall, hope the bounce back with NX.

Nothing surprising, PS4 has driven the competitors to the edge of despair and irrelevance.

Did you really call Microsoft and Nintendo irrelevant? Lol Lets not be over the top here. PS4 is selling very well, but you cannot say Xbox One is selling horridly in any way and their software sales are very high. And Nintendo just came off one of the biggest console phenomenon's of all time, they misfired with Wii U, yes, but they are still a major player. Just because PS4 is selling more doesn't talk for the other brands.

That's beyond true, the PS4 is destroying Microsoft and Nintendo. If I'm not mistaken, last Quarter PS4 sold more units than the X360, XBOne, Wii, Wii U, and all 3DS versions combined.

Smart try to derail thread.

But here we are strictly talking about games and home consoles.

How would you feel if someone thrashed 3ds while comparing ios app revenue and numbers?

I'm 100% on topic. Take it to a mod if you want. I did not once "trash the PS4," and your comparison to "someone trashing the 3DS while comparing iOS app revenue and numbers" is not an equal one. All I want is context. "Playstation Home Consoles Generate More Revenue Than Microsoft And Nintendo Combined."

Great.

What is the context? Why is that important? What are the benefits and/or ramifications of this information? How does it help Sony? Does it help Sony? Why is it bad for Microsoft and Nintendo? Is it bad for them? Are either of them in a position where they need specifically their home consoles to generate as much revenue as the PS4 specifically? Why shouldn't handhelds be included in this discussion? Why does this comparison merit discussion? Why is it important to know this?

Asking these kinds of questions doesn't "derail" anything.

No, I did not call Microsoft and Nintendo irrelevant. I was referring to XBox and WiiU, and I wrote that they are at the edge of irrelevance (and despair).

Please read with comprehension, it helps in discussions and avoids me needing to respond to clarify what was already clear in the first place.

Funny when PS3 dropped BC and dropped to 399 it was considered a price drop, but all of a sudden, the X1 drop to 399 didn't count as one.
