Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I want to want Shovel Knight... but I can't

Tagged games:

I desperately want to want Shovel Knight. From what I've seen and heard it looks like a really awesome game, but Yacht Club is making REALLY difficult for me to get it in good conscience.

I would prefer to get it for Wii U/3DS. I like helping the indies on Nintendo and Wii U/3DS is what it was orignally made for (along with PC), but I REFUSE to pay for an inferior port at full price. All versions of the game are $15, however, the Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and Vita versions all have exclusive bosses that are not available on other platforms, while the Wii U/3DS/PC versions up til now got nothing. I know people are going to bring up that it's just one boss per version, but it's more the principle of thing. Wii U/3DS/PC owners are the reason the game exists in the first place, as it was Kickstarted by them, and they get less content for the same price. That's bull.

And now, the amiibo. As many of you have heard, Shovel Knight's getting an amiibo. Great! A major indie success story is getting an amiibo. Not so great, they're locking an exclusive co-op mode, as well as additional challenge levels and customization behind it. Still not great, it will be in "limited quantities" around the holiday. In other words, they're locking an exclusive game mode and levels behind an guaranteed to be rare figurine. So $13 (minimum) hard to get exclusive content behind a figurine, while the Xbox and PlayStation versions get free exclusive content.

Thoughts? I'm tempted to get it used when it goes retail, because I find this to be bullshit.

Well, as you said, its only one boss or another.Plus now that he is getting a amiibo, the wii u/3ds version have potentially more content. But to be honest, i think you are being silly. If you apply that kind of though, you will never buy third party games, because the games will naturally have small differences betwenn the versions, be it resolution, or a exclusive mission or something, like batman did for example.Just buy the game.If you like megaman, you wont regret it.

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

I agree with one part. Amiibo locking content (DLC) is disgustingly bad. Sure, the figure looks great and you get good content... but that thing will be almost the price of the game. So if you buy both versions (3DS and WiiU) and the amiibo, you're almost at the premium AAA title price!

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

I agree with that as well. I don't like Amiibo locking content. That's bull. Just a tactic to get you to buy the Amiibos. All content regarding levels, costumes, and such should be available to everyone. Just make the Amiibos accessible to leveling up. That way you're not upsetting the gamers for content being unavailable to them.

I wish I was in your situation. I bought the game, and now I desperately want to like it....

You're better of not buying it imo :-p

You're being oversensitive. Just buy the 3DS version and quit moaning!

I can't believe they locked Co-op behind goddamn amiboos. Those thing sell on their own, there is no need to give that giant incentive to it. Not a fan of that decision at all.

These problems matter.

People like you are the reason Nintendo is in trouble.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”
