Forums - Movies & TV - Which of These Video Game Movies will get a Fresh Rating on Rotten Tomatoes?

Will any of these movies get a fresh rating?

Uncharted 6 6.67%

Assassin's Creed 7 7.78%

The Last of Us 14 15.56%

Ratchet and Clank 24 26.67%

None of the above 19 21.11%

All of the above 7 7.78%

All of the above except Ratchet and Clank 3 3.33%

All of the above except..... 1 1.11%

Show me the numbers 9 10.00%

Total:90

We have 3 movies in development that are based on video games that have pretty decent / good stories and characters with a bit of depth. It seems in many cases video game adaptations have suffered badly in the story and character development department, and aside from failing to hire good writers and directors (not sure what went wrong with Prince of Persia there), story and character development are probably key reasons there have been few / no video games with a fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Those movies are:

Uncharted

Assassin's Creed

The Last of Us

Can any of these movies actually break the cycle and get a super majority (60%+) of reviewers to like them?

Also Ratchet and Clank thrown into the mix.

Poll up soon.

I'd say your poll may be showing a little bias.

I accidentally hit the "enter" key after typing in Uncharted and it submitted the poll. Fixed now with a couple more options.

My vote is none of them will. I remain cynical about video game adaptations, and I also think there is a general bias against video game adaptations among reviewers. Not a tin hat conspiracy type bias, but more like an eye-roll "just stop with these lame adaptations already, it doesn't work" type bias. Which of course somewhat reflects my own views. I have the most hope for The Last of Us, but it has a hard task being a "zombie"* movie.

*Zombie in quotes because the infected are not zombies.

Ratchet and Clank is Animation, definitely got the best of being a fresh rating.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

You know, this thread lets me know that you are a very positive person, believing that Uncharted film will ever release. :P

I think all of them have a good chance but Ratchet & Clank has the highest chance.

This. With the latest live action adaptation bombing (Hitman 47), I can safely say that the best bet falls on the animated feature that can easily retain the charm of the series the movie is adapted from.

Definitely Ratchet and Clank! The other movies will probably do horribly.

Ratchet and maybe TLOU if they don't screw it up

Yeah, I definitely think Ratchet & Clank has the highest chance here... mainly because it's basically being co-produced/developed/whatevertheyuseinthefilmworld by Insomniac too, according to wiki they're helping with the production, screenplay, story, character development, and animation. And since the games are always rated rather positively (The main games that is, not talking about All4One and stuff, lol), so yeah... I reckon it's definitely got the highest chance, and I'm rooting for it!

The Last of Us is being written by Neil Druckmann, so you can't get closer to the game than that. However that does bring a bit of a danger in that Druckmann might not have the same talent for movie scripts as he does for game scripts. I hope he has some experience movie script writers as co-writers.

I'm not sure R&C has an easier path to a fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Sure I think reviewers might not carry a certain negativity into an animated movie adapted from a video game, but with Pixar, in particular, reviewers have come to recognise that animated movies can have great stories, considerable depth and compelling characters.
