Forums - Gaming Discussion - Publishers need to focus on online multiplayer centric games or else they're going to be f*cked in the future.

I think it's undeniable that adding a multiplayer mode helps sales, but still...
Assassin's Creed and Uncharted sell exceptionally well, and multiplayer is just an afterthought for those games.

I am going to go out an say this and I know I am going to get a lot of hate, but I don't give a shit what people think. My opinion matters more to me than any of yours.

Then why even post here? Forums are about discussing topics. If you think your opinion is so awesome, then wht don't you keep it to yourself, knowing it's better than everyone else's and all? What's the point of this thread?

As for your arguments, you need to provide some sources, if you want to be taken seriously. For example, you state that Titanfall sold more than the Witcher, which is not true, if you take a second and look at the statement released by The Witcher 3 developers about its sales. http://www.vgchartz.com/article/260705/the-witcher-3-has-sold-over-6-million-units-budget-was-53m/

Then again, you don't give a shit about what people think, so why should we?

This is a very bad argument. Online and multiplayer games are always going to be the "most played", because people like to keep playing with others and compete forever, whereas in single player games they'll usually play through the campaign once or twice and be done with it.

Exactly my point. Multiplayer games give you more replay value, much easier/cheaper to make. Publishers have to see this.

Why do you say that they are easier and costs less to make? Destiny cost 500 million...

That went to adverisement because judging by the game it didn't feel like 500 million.

Well they still spent 500 million on the game...

Resistance: Fall of Man sold over 4 million copies as far as I'm aware of, and I'm sure most people bought it for the single-player. The Uncharted series and The Last of Us are popular for their single-player campaigns, and multiplayer is seen as a bonus in those games. The Batman Arkham series sold very well, and they're single-player games (Origins have multiplayer, but not many people play it last time I played it). The recent Witcher 3, single-player game, sold 6 million copes.

While I can respect your thoughts and opinion, It's rather bias to just state that single-player games are dying, when it isn't the case. Sure, there may be around 500,000 people playing CS:GO, but Skyrim still has many people playing it and with the upcoming Fallout 4, what you had stated would only be seen as false even further to many.

Witcher, Batman, Dying Light, The Last Of Us, Far Cry, Shadow of Mordor, Dragon Age, GTA, LEGO Jurassic World, Wolfenstein.......all bombed because of their stupid developers who gave emphasis to single player.

Again, look how long it takes to make those games. You will get them maybe twice a generation. They also cost a lot to make compare to an online game. Shifting focus to multiplayer centric games make economic sense.

What are we gonna do with these multiplayer games when their servers shut down? They may have replay value but it is only for a limited time.

But it makes much more sense to make mobile free 2 play games like Candy Crush or Kim Kardashian.

They are easy to make, cost very little and make millions in microtransactions.

Multiplayer games are screwed. I hear Treyarch is shifting focus to Justin Bieber of Duty for iOS, and DICE is developing Matchthreefield: Fruit Company as an Android exclusive.
