Forums - Gaming Discussion - Publishers need to focus on online multiplayer centric games or else they're going to be f*cked in the future.

I am going to go out an say this and I know I am going to get a lot of hate, but I don't give a shit what people think. My opinion matters more to me than any of yours. Now that I got that out of the way, let me go on. I love single player games and there is nothing wrong with them, but the younger generation (soon to be the ones deciding our market) want to play multiplayer based games not single player based. Most single player based games are bombing hard in sales or aren't doing too well compare to multiplayer. While the ones with a lot of emphasis on multiplayer are succedding. Publishers needs to start dishing out multiplayer centric games (especially Sony and Microsoft since they charge for online). Go up to someone who played COD and ask about the single player and he is more than likely going to be like "what?". Single player games are more and more serving as a tutorial and nothing else. Very few single player games are doing well and the future doesn't look good for them.

The Witcher 3 says hi. The ridiculous success that Fallout 4 is going to have also says hi. Batman: Arkham Knight says hi.

Im not sure if SP games usually bomb more often than games with MP. Just look at all the MMOs that bomb.

Edit: in numbers:
Best selling game on the PS3 and PS4. Second best selling game on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

And don't say it's a "multiplayer" game. It has multiplayer, yes, but the focus is entirely on the single player.

what does a niche title like gta prove?

My opinion matters more to me than yours. Now that that pointless statement is out of the way, there is a place for both. I love competitive online multiplayer, but I also love single player RPGS and adventure games. I don't expect that to change.

Even not talking about MMOs, there's lots of console multiplayer games that bomb hard, like Splatoon.. oh wait, never mind.

Well Im guessing Devils Third will do great since it has MP

Also, why would you get hate? You're entitled to your opinion. I feel like you were hoping for hate.

Lol at people naming witcher 3 or batman. Look at Titan Fall. A new ip that sold over 5 million and more than witcher 3/batman. Also, it wasn't on the ps4 like these other games. I guarantee you publishers are seeing this. Takes less effort to make these games with a better reward. Only very few single player games are doing well, but they cost a lot more money and time. Look how long it takes GTA5 to be made or Fallout/MGS.

It was published here just 9 hours ago. No its not CoD levels of sales but guess what, neither have any of the CoD clones been

"While the ones with a lot of emphasis on multiplayer are succeeding"

But many of them are also bombing... Countless MMOs, Moba, Cod clones and etc all bombed and they were all multiplayer centric... And many single player games are also succeeding... You have games like the witcher 3, GTA V, upcoming MGS V PP, DA:I and etc. Sure they have tact on multiplayer but they are hardly multiplayer centric... And there are many other single player games that are also doing very well
