Forums - Nintendo Discussion - How would you rate the Nintendo published software output this year?

I only bought one game this year .

And it's a remake too, Majora's Mask, so I don't know if I should be the one to rate this year's software output. That said if I look at the list it's average. The lack of a big AAA title (in terms of fame, at least) on both systems really hurts it. Personally I'm hyped for Super Mario Maker and will definitely get that if nothing else, should help with my perception of this year's software in a big way!

For WiiU a good thing is needed, but I'm not too shaken about the situation for the 3DS, because it has already proven itself as one of the best systems out there.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D - 8.5
Boss battles are bad, fishing ponds are useless and swimming mechanic is now a mess. Other than that, the game is the same as the one on the N64, thus is very good.

I have been agreeing with you a lot this year. And again now. I'd say beside the graphical update, the remake did more harm than good to the game. It's still amazing, but I do prefer the N64 version. I'd score the game a 9, and I'm a harsh judge, but the remake bumps it down to 8.5 for me. Pretty much the opposite of what Wind Waker HD did for me on that game.

I'll excuse the boss battles because beside Goht they already weren't the high point of the game though. I agree I fail to see the inclusion of the fishing ponds or the point of the altered swimming mechanics other than making the beaver race more challenging. Besides those, I actually think the Bomber's Notebook is worse because it doesn't show all events on the timetable anymore, often until after you've actually completed one. And I hate how they ruined the significance of the Song of Time, and thereby much of the point of the game. Anyway, I haven't completed it yet though, the Song of Double Time is obviously improved and I do like how some stuff like the stray fairies being in different places among other things keep things fresh for a player of the original.

Forgot Bomber's Notebook and Song of Time significance but I agree. It was clearly an easy version of the original one, and I also prefere the original one.

How on earth can it lose ground by including games like Super Mario Maker, Fatal Frame, Star Fox, and Xenoblade Chronicles X?

I will probably buy none of those.

Evidently we just have a different methodology for grading lol... I tend to just start at zero and work up towards ten as they release good games, unaffected by the bad stuff that is als released. You seem to be aiming for an average interest level score for all games.

Both are fine. Whereas I'd probably go with an 8/10 with mine, I'd probably knock it down to around 5.5 or 6/10 on average.

This year I have bought so far
Mario Party 10
Kirby Rainbow paintbrush
Yoshi Woolly World
Splatoon
Devils Third (which arrives tomorrow)
8.5/10 so far for me, with Xenoblade, Fatal Frame, Mario tennis , Mario maker and Starfox to come it could easily be a 9.5/10

I'd say 5/10 so far, thanks to Splatoon and Majora's Mask 3D, aside from those two only Code Name S.T.E.A.M grabbed my interest and it's not exactly a great game. As for upcoming games, the only one I really want is Star Fox Zero, out of curiosity I'll pick Yo-Kai Watch and maybe Devil's Third, while the recently released LittleBattlers Experience is also an option. That'd be it for me, I was interested in Fatal Frame at first but the digital only release killed the game for me, JRPGs are my favorite genre but I've tried the first Xenoblade many times and still dislike it, the rest of the games just aren't my cup of tea. All in all, a pretty bad year for Wii U and just decent for the 3DS, it'll probably stay at 5/10 or go down to 4/10 if Star Fox Zero ends up disappointing me.

It's amazing how many more games Ninty released/will release for 3DS as compared to WiiU this year. They really did mess up with WiiU's line-up this gen, sad.

I have to disagree. This year hasn't been great. But I would say WII U has a really strong library. If I had to rate the year so far, I would give them a 7. I'm looking forward for Xenoblade, Star Fox and Fatal Frame.

WiiU's year is good, just not like 3DS's ( in terms of quantity), that's what I was mostly referring to, and by messed up I meant all the delays and sparse releases, if they want to support a console all by themselves, they will need to do much better than this.

Well, most Wii U owners happen to like platformers (Yoshi's Woolly World, Super Mario Maker).

If you like futuristic racers there's also Fast Racing Neo. Although that's probably not published by Nintendo, but still exclusive.

3/10 thus far for wii u. Splatoon, Mario party 10 and kirby do not appeal to me. Mario maker looks great, xeno x seems decent, but the rest of the games really don't seem that great. It's not so much that I hate the games coming out (although nothing too spectacular is coming out), its more so the lack of options/games/genres/variety.

6/10 thus far for 3ds. 3ds has brought out majoras mask, but thus far this year has kinda been subpar. A good amount of games are yet to come though, including third party, so this score may rise later.

Yoshi's Woolly World: 2D platformer (if you like Mario platformers you should like this)

Splatoon: third person shooter

Mario Party 10: party game

Super Mario Maker: level editor (which makes it a totally different beast than Yoshi's Woolly World) anùd 2%D platformer.

Star Fox Zero: on-rails shooter

Fatal Frame V: survival horror game

Fast Racing Neo: futuristic racer

Xenoblade Chronicles X: JRPG

Pretty varied list of games/genres if you ask me... I think your problem is quantity instead of variation in genres.
