Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Is the age of the Direct over?

Over the last several days, Nintendo has made several pretty big announcements -- including an extended trailer for Super Mario Maker.

But no Nintendo Direct for any of it.

While Iwata's death gives the activity some pause, there's no reason the likes of Miyamoto, Reggie, Bill and others couldn't fill in.

It makes me curious: perhaps Nintendo doesn't see much upside to doing regular directs any more. They're costly and timely to produce with perhaps no clear correlation to increased sales for any particular title.

Personally, I think they may adopt a practice of doing one other scheduled digital event between one E3 and another and have Treehouse stream fill in details for upcoming titles.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Reggie does nothing so I think he could take over.

I really really really hope not but I think that they are delaying it until they have a new ceo

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Let's wait a couple of months.

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

I wouldn't start to make any speculation yet. I'm guessing it is pretty hectic over there. I don't think we will have a chance to see one until there is a new CEO named and they take the position. Then I think they may continue the ND's, the CEO may not host them but they should be back.

And the news we are getting was probally slated for ND before Iwata's death and giving the news a press releases beats not releasing news at all.

I just think they are waiting. Just wait,

They will be back... give it time.
Someone at nintendo will step up and start doing them again.

No probably not. But Directs take time to create and Iwata's unexpected passing likely caused some shuffling of duties throughout the company. Combine that with the fact there's only really been one direct-worthy announcement - Pokken (which announcing that at the Pokemon World  hampionships was a good move) and they probably didn't feel compelled to hustle one out. And the Mario Maker trailer is clearly an advertisement, not a trailer meant for a Direct. I expect we'll see another Direct either later in the Fall (on the threshold of the Holidays) or at the end of the year (Zelda, GIR #FE, Project Tressure, Pokken, Fire Emblem Fates, Bravely Second, basically 2016 hype).

Hopefully we get new episodes of Nintendo Show 3D. Topless.

Maybe now people will appreciate them and stop bitching for everything.
