Forums - Gaming Discussion - Rockband XBO is $20 more than PS4 version and here's the reason why...

In addition to announcing 10 new tracks for Rock Band 4, developer Harmonix has now confirmed logistical and pricing details for the music game's standalone PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions.

The PS4 standalone disc will cost the standard $60, but the Xbox One edition carries an $80 price tag. The price difference comes down to the Xbox One edition requiring a "Legacy Game Controller Adapter." This adapter allows players use their existing Xbox 360 guitars and drum sets; it supports up to four controllers simultaneously, and also works with a variety of third-party instruments.

For PS4, no adapter is required. Legacy Rock Band and third-party guitars and drum sets will work just fine out of the box without any additional hardware.

Harmonix has also published a handy Rock Band 4 instrument compatibility chart to help you determine if those guitars in your closet will work with the new game. Note that the chart is not yet finalized.

Nothing out of the ordinary, XBox is infamous for its proprietary adapters that cost ten times the regular price.

This is a mess that's bound to confuse a lot customers. Rock Band PS2 controllers are compatible in someway? Old Guitar Hero controllers work too? And this game is only PS4/X1?

I think Guitar Hero Live got it right going in with a clean slate.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

WTF??? They allow legacy Rock Band peripherals but not the DS3? Fuck you too Sony -.-

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

so that's how they fixed that problem. sucks for xbox owners but a new guitar will cost a fair penny more than $20 so there is still a cost savings. harmonix could have been assholes and just forced everyone to by new bits of plastic so you have to applaud the effort they are taking to support BC.

Bet you they are making a profit on that $20 item.

Hmm, pie.

That is sad.

No preriferical BC is terrible decision... give the adapter for free.

Oh yeah. Give the adapter for free and just raise the price of every copy of the game in general to compensate for the R&D and manufacturing costs involved in creating that adapter to begin with. Because everybody should have to pay a little more for the way Microsoft designed the 360. /s

I think it's perfectly fair that it's being priced that way, and I think the legacy controller support is pretty cool. I'd guess most guitars that were functional on the PS2 and stayed functional on the PS3 will be similarly functional on the PS4. That just makes sense to me. Guitar Hero controllers on the other hand are super hit or miss, so I'd guess a fair bit of testing will have to go into determining their compatibility.

That said, I wouldn't want to use a decade old controller to play a new game. Concerns come to mind about the condition of the hardware, especially if the controller is 10+ years old and had heavy use prior. Then again, if you can be content with it, that does save $60.

So you want Harmonix to go bust?

Jesus, anyone want to guess the sales split for this game? 10:1 maybe?

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.
