You have to be kidding.

Sephiroth was not a good villain. Honestly, we haven't had a good FF villain since Kefka. It's like they exhausted their villain writing ability pulling out all the stops to make a genuinely evil person, and since then, we've gotten a couple of half decent efforts and otherwise nothing noteworthy. FFX onward especially has produced zero memorable villains, and even as much as I like FFIX and I felt the story was fairly well told, I can't remember who the final villain ended up being. FFVIII kind of struggled all around, and FFVII has been raised to such a high standard by nostalgia, it's ridiculous. People putting Sephiroth on the same level as actual good villains is an insult to good writing everywhere.
Tales of Symphonia is a laughing stalk of villians, but Mithos is a better "villian" than Sephiroth
He shouldn't really say that. Unless the main villain is doing horrific gory things. And has that epic of dialog. Wait till the reactions of people come in first.

Sephiroth is great villian imo.
Most games your trying to save the world, and the villian keeps popping up throwing small mini bosses at you, giggleing and running off.
Sephiroth wasnt like that. You where chaseing him, hot on his tail (never really catching up to him).
All you would see of him was the wake of distruction he left in his path.
Also he completely mindf***s you a few times and tricks you, and he actually kills one of your party members (how often do you lose one of your playable party members permanently in a game?)
Neither were particularly great to me. Sephiroth was sorta interesting but Kefka was basically a Joker knock-off I'm interested in seeing how this villain behaves though

To be technical, you weren't chasing Sephiroth. You were chasing Jenova and it was Jenova who killed Aerith not Sephiroth. Sephy doesn't make an actual appearance untill the Reunion and the end of the game (minus flashbacks). Bosses tricking/decieving you is "Boss 101", c'mon, your reaching.
Not to Mention in Dissidia, Sephy came off as bitch and a petty bully.
I like Sephiroth, dont get me wrong but, there are better "Villians". I Know Sephiroth is badass but that doesnt equal great "Villian"
