Forums - Gaming Discussion - Polygon: Why Banjo-Kazooie is better than Super Mario 64

I never got into Super Mario 64 in all honesty. I enjoyed Banjo and DK64 a lot more as a kid.

Though Mario revolutionised it all so it HAS to be said

Both are good games. BK improved on a formula that Mario wrote. They're both important to gaming history, though BK less than Mario 64.

Still haven't played Banjo. I'm told this is shameful. I might have to whack the emulator on.

I prefer Mario 64 but both are great games. Having to collect all notes in one go was stupid though, which is why I never finished Banjo Kazooie back then. I'll give it another go once I get my hands on an Xbone and the Rare collection.

I also prefer banjo kazooie to SM64 but then I played banjo first so SM64 felt like a step backwards IMO. I loved most rare games back then though ESP golden eye and perfect dark.

If you consider yourself a fan of platformers then it's indeed very shameful.

Well it would've been sort of weird had BK been much worse than SM64, what with it coming out 2 years later and all.

im surprised so many here agree, and even more suprised that they think SM64 aged poorly

That's the part I find odd. Other than the way it looks SM64 hasn't really aged at all. I played it for a bit a few weeks ago for the first time in years, and I was able to pick it right up and play it as if I'd never stopped. It was great, actually haha!

i actually agree that SM64 hasnt aged well and its not just the graphics
