Forums - Sony Discussion - Digital Foundry: Uncharted Collection more than just a remaster

I've never played the Drake's Deception and didn't finish the Among Thieves. I will be getting the collection. It looks great compared to it's PS3 counterpart. There are a quite a few touch ups. I'm satisfied with the look of this remaster.

The other threat was locked instantly because it was a double threat, I´m not spamming this, the only thing that happens here is some of you can´t take a single opinion.

I was just kidding, I don't really care if you do that :D

I'm a huge Uncharted fan, so take this in that context...

It doesn't matter how great it looks. It's a remaster, not a remake. The article is really saying it's a good remaster, not a bad remaster. Everything that they are describing including "Full 1080p" and "Improved shading" are elements of remasters. To be considered a remake, the gameplay has to be different. A remake would be a new game based on the original game.

Well they also showed many examples of changed geometry which isn't seen in most remaster s

They fixed some of the other clipping tho I noticed. Take a look how Drake grabs the pistol when zip lining in the PS3 vers vs the PS4. There are a few other examples if you look closely. Overall with the changes to geometry, textures, materials shadows l, lighting AA, res and FPS I say its more than a simple remaster. Like if a remaster is a 9 and a remake is a 10 this is a 9.1 on my arbitrary grading scale.

So what's a 6.7?

I have been on the fence as to when to get a PS4. Even though I have all of the Uncharted games already, this may warrant a Holiday buy. I was going to wait til the new uncharted came out, but this looks like the time to go.

Reality is, anyone who just went 360 last gen can be genuinely and significantly tempted by this collection, as long as they're not major Halo fans. Gears fans might do as you're doing here and push the button on Xb one for the Gears collection. But if the choice is between an awesome series you've already got and an awesome series you've never played then the choice would tilt towards Uncharted. Same can be said about Gears of course. This holiday is looking at a minor battle between the TPS remasters in between all of actual big guns coming out this holiday. If sentiment towards the consoles was more even it would be a fascinating little battle. But because PS3 owners are generally not looking at Xb one over PS4, the battle is skewed towards Uncharted for reasons outside of the qualities of the respective game collections.

I'm seriously vascilating myself on getting this collection, and I've stayed away from TLOUR as I don't think it's a justified purchase for me. But 3 of my top 10 games from last gen in one package is so tempting. Also a chance to re-platinum, and there is almost no way I'd be able to platinum TLOU or TLOUR. Funny that platinum trophies are part of the consideration, albeit not a major consideration.  But I've committed to not buying any more retail games until next year, so if I get it, it will be in 2016.
