Forums - Gaming Discussion - Unable to play any other classic jRPG after Chrono Cross

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and Seiken Densetsu 3 (secret of mana 2) would like to have a word with you. It doesn't get better than those two.

Are you kidding me!? Most of Mario RPG charm comes from its marrimh Mario aesthetics to FF  and its script. As a standalone RPG it is very basic/shallow. Not alot of depth at all or challenge at all.

I am actually in the middle of that game right now! what I have played is amazing, and I look forward too beating it. I haven't really found a true connection to chrono trigger yet,
(except that the line "chrono trigger" has appeared in the game.)
I understand that people don't like it because of its loose connection, but it really seems to be a great game so far.

I am taking a couple of months off from the game right now... I like making games as great as this last!

There are plenty connections but they are more "implied" than stated

Finally someone like me. Someone who truly appreciates this RPG... Truly it's one of the best JRPG's ever made, I played it 7 times and did absolutely everything. This game is like crack.

Oh stop,Chrono has a huge following. Its not some black sheep. The only people who CC crap are the people who couldn't get over CT cast not being the lead.

As for the game, I wont argue with the statement it was the pinnacle of genre. I spent enyire summer playing this game.

I'm not sure if I would use the term black sheep for it. It's more like people completely forgot about it... It's nowhere to be found in "best RPG ever" lists or any kind of threads.

In fact even I forgot about the game. Thank god for this thread reminding me of how awesome it was!

"I've Underestimated the Horse Power from Mario Kart 8, I'll Never Doubt the WiiU's Engine Again"

With this game I managed to turn a guy from a "Nintendo 64 is better than PlayStation" into a PlayStation fan. :D

It has been years since I last played this game. Managed to find all characters using the option to load characters from other save files. My favorite party members were the following, if I remember right:

Good times and nice company. :)

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

As a standalone game, I would have ranked it as good but nothing special (kinda like SaGa Frontier) but as a sequel to Chrono Trigger, it's an abomination.

wait until you play xenoblade chronicles

I hope to play it one day, but it's a modern jRPG so Chrono Cross will always remain my fav classic. I played Xenoblade Chronicles on PC on Dolphin emulator a bit but got distracted by other games.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

Back then I pretty much bought anything with Squaresoft's logo on it. I did enjoy SaGa Frontier but I never got around to playing the game with every character.

Whether the game was a masterpiece or not, there is no denying that the soundtrack absolutely is. One of the best soundtracks in gaming full stop.
