Forums - PC Discussion - Ad Blockers in web browsers, a solution or a problem?

I didn't grab an ad blocker until sites started using autoplay video ads in obscure areas of their sites so as to try and make it difficult to quickly find and stop the ad. If the ads on sites were to be standardized as a still image banner here and there I would turn off the blocker.

Without adblock internet is not enjoyable anymore, it's slow, heavy, visually painful with things flashing everywhere, and even noisy. The situation is so bad it's not even possible to restrict adblock for a few sites (or just ignore them), I'm using it 100% of the time, that's the first thing I install on a browser, and I've never seen vgchartz without it. They killed it.

I only use adblocker because ads prevent content I'm trying to consume. I don't mind ads being around a website, around a video, pop up ads in a video. But if you're making me watch an ad or forcefully making ads open when I didn't click on them and only clicked play. Then I'm going to block that shit.

There's only 2 races: White and 'Political Agenda'
2 Genders: Male and 'Political Agenda'
2 Hairstyles for female characters: Long and 'Political Agenda'
2 Sexualities: Straight and 'Political Agenda'

Adblock is a problem that was directly brought on by advertisers themselves. Look at this website, which is 100% the reason I went out and consciously searched for Adblock in the first place. It was either that or stop coming here completely. The abuses force people to respond, which in turn hurts those who employed advertisements responsibly.

If it's a website that I intend to use often and wish to support, I give them a chance by enabling ads on that domain. Bato.to, for example, promised not to have intrusive ads and so I enabled them a long time ago and I've never regretted it. Auto-play video ads, though, from places that don't seem to care about user enjoyment? Fuck you.

It's a shame, but as long as we have abusers, there will be people who seek out Adblock.

Call me old fashioned, but I'd rather donate than click on an ad that only contributes 5 cents....

You don't have to click on an add for the site to make money. That's a common belief though, but you just have to see it.

I use No Script in FireFox for my ad-blocking pleasure.

Spend a bit more time, but I allow certain ads (mainly static images) and have all running scripts blocked.

I hate auto running ads (Audio and Video)

Web ads are scams anyway. Does anyone actually click on them? The companies buying the ad space are getting scammed by the companies selling the space. Look, you'll get a million "impressions" i.e. views with zero guarantee of any click through.

Advertising these days is more about impression than it is about click-thru in general.  Most companies have reached the point where they realize that the user isn't looking to shop or investigate a service if they aren't specifically searching for it at the time.  That is a large part of why ads have become so invasive.  It is unfortunate but people are going to remember that really shitty Best Buy ad that expanded across the screen on them when it comes time to buy their computer and not the newegg border that didn't go out of its way to make itself known.

I hate ads so i use mine at all times. My brother and I have been watching our regular youtube videos on the PS4 so ads still work and I don't feel as bad for my youtubers of choice. I'm not taking it off on my PC for anyone, however
