I said some of their best work. Its a fair statment.

Banjo N&B is great. Viva Pinata is still praised. Some of their other Xbox games are at par or better than much of their old stuff.

Sorry, before Halo there was goldeneye. Rare was never more popular than the Nintendo era. People are actually more disappointed in them today than at any point in their career, but then again the Stamper bros left.

Anyway, you're its your opinion. LOL

Seeing that was like a bad dream. Imagine Rare didnt make the Nintendo games and it was just Microsoft. LOL...what a horrible world to live in.

That's the thing, I'm not gonna agree something was good simply because it was popular. A lot of the N64 era games aged horribly which shows those games had major issues even at release. My favorite thing about Rare Replay is it shows I was right, most of those classic Rare games were over rated and almost unplayable by standards of today.

For me, the best of Rare was DKC and KI. MS doesn't have DKC but they have KI and that lead to one of greatest fighting games ever. All the amazing talent of Rare left and did what? Nothing notable. Rare was and still is a fine studio, but they were over rated.

I'm just curious what the completion rate for Battletoads is / will be. Unless, of course, they put some cheatsy twist on it to make it easier.

They did

On all the older games in the collection the LT button rewinds the game, so if you die you can just rewind and take a different action so you don't die.

That's unbelievably cheap. At least, tell me there's an achievement for not using the rewind function!

Goldeneye really has aged pretty badly, and DK is owned by Nintendo so that couldn't be in it...still, it would have been sweet.

See I think the thing that has aged badly is the controls. The rest of the gameplay I can imagine being still quite good. Redone controls and there is still some merit to the goldeneye gameplay style imo

Well... look at the Perfect Dark Remaster on 360. They basically just cleaned up the visuals and left the gameplay untouched. Even with modern controls the gameplay still feels very dated.

Goldeneye was an innovative game, but its hard to enjoy without nostalgia. 3D shooters like Quake, Unreal, and Halo have done better at the test of time.

Of the MS Rare games I've played Viva Pinata, and Perfect Dark: Zero (duh), Killer Instinct (more on that in a moment), Nuts & Bolts, and season two of Kinect Sports.

This is going to sound weird, but I have the same issue with Killer Instict that I have with Resistance. Everytime I got done playing Resistance I walked away thinking "Well, that was certainly a  first person shooter". Killer Instict in certainly a fighting game...but that's really it. It's just missing something, it's not as tight or as out right fun as a game like MKX but it's also not as hard edged or challenging as a game like Street Fighter or Guilty Gear. The combo and special system is pretty neat, but the actual fighting itself is only meh and the roster is sub-par.

Ok cool. I've heard one of their better games was Kameo. I'll play it when I get the collection. I didn't like Viva Pinata although, admittedly, I didn't give it a fair shake. Kinect Sports were good showcase games. I liked them.

Killer Instinct is one of my favorite games. I feel the roster is very good and diverse. It's just getting back in the swing of things after being dormant. SF MK and such have consistently been around for decades. It's very good and obviously I don't agree with some of what you said about it.

If Rare was so great wouldn't Nintendo have kept them? Why were they even for sale?

Yeah, I never got to play Kameo. I thought Viva Pinata was good, it was pretty much just a more whimsical Sims game.

Obviously my opinion of KI is just that, my opinion. I just couldn't get into it.

I don't really know why Nintendo sold Rare, I believe MS paid them something like $375 million dollars for them though, and much of the old talent from Rare had started to leave by that point I think.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Loving it so far. Anyone know if they have patched in controls for Jet Force yet? I am looking forward to that one more than anything else in the collection.

I've played 7-30 games so far, most not for too long. I've spent most of my time in Banjo&Kazooie (just finished the mechanical shark level), and Battletoads. If it wasn't for the rewind feature I would have given up on BT by now.

Yeah, I got a patch notice about control changes when I started that game. Since I didn't play the original, I don't know what was changed.

In my opinion, Nintendo let them go because they didnt feel they were worth $375 million.

I kinda feel it was a bad move for Nintendo because the same games they made for Xbox would have been more successful on Nintendo platforms. They could have made that money back in time. Also, those Rare IPs were a great fit for Nintendo.

However, this was pre DS and Wii when MS purchased Rare. So maybe Nintendo didnt want to take the risk of spending $375 million on a studio.

People act like MS buying Rare was a mistake but theyve had success under MS and added diversity to their library. It was a bargain for MS.

When I was younger it wasn't about popularity, Rare was on the losing team and it still compelled people to buy new consoles. Goldeneye sold just as much as the first halo. Rare is no longer a fine studio  imo but a shell. Luckily MS doesn't have to make them recreate all of the nostalgia  games. Their only good game to me on any xbox platform was killer instinct and it wasn't even made by them. Then again I've been spoiled by Nintendo and sony first party growing  up so I guess it's a little unfair to expect the same from microsoft.

I dont have an xbox one though i played sone of the remakes on 360. Rares peak for me was goldeneye but that has aged badly. Whats really a shame is there hasnt been a worthy successor which captured what i liked about that game. Perfect dark was ok but in trying to be bigger and better it missed what i liked about goldeneye. replying those many varide short levels, some linear, some stealthy, trying to get best times on diffrent difficulties was what really shone for me in that game. All perfect darks levels were too big and elaborate and all in the vain of the most popular goldeneye levels which reduced variaty.

None of their 3d platformers were anything on mario 64 but they were ok and gave the n64 more 3d platformers to go at. bango and kazooie was the best and that riped a lot of ideas from mario 64 without being as good.

Jet force gemini was near the end of their n64 era. Their games were patchier then but i had some mindless fun with it until it started having a lot of boring backtracking. I'd only revisit out of notagia.
