What a change of attitude from this

"
“This year will be the largest in the history of the video game industry, with Xbox 360 leading the charge in the U.S. and abroad,” said Don Mattrick, senior vice president of the Interactive Entertainment Business in the Entertainment and Devices Division at Microsoft. “History has shown us that the first company to reach 10 million in console sales wins the generation battle. We are uniquely positioned to set a new benchmark for the industry.”

I don't really see how that quote is relevant to what he said here, nor why it would matter even if it was a direct contradiction of what Phil said. They're two separate quotes, made by 2 different people, 7~ years apart, and each in a different context. There being a 'change' between the two doesn't seem particularly surprising, or even note worthy :p

It points out that when they were ahead, number were relevant to them, now they are behind and the attitude is "who cares about numbers anyway, right?"

He didn't say that numbers aren't relevant, just that he'd rather focus on his own numbers and platform than the competition's. Winning the sales race is obviously something everyone would like to do, but focusing on nothing but that isn't a good recipe for success.

Regardless, as i said, even if the two were directly contradicting each other, it wouldn't mean much. To be honest, even if it was the same person saying it i wouldn't think much of it. People aren't static blocks, their opinion and philosophies can easily change over 7~ years.

Seems winning the gen isn't on the agenda anymore

Oh no! Its another 180. LOL!

Joke joke joke ^^

But in all seriousness, at least he has realistic goals and expectations.

Besides they just need to take the US to win the generation. ;)

A question for Abun and others seconding hishers post.. What is he supposed to do in an interview if not answer questions? And how does what he says translate to nothing? I thought he said plenty and I like his visions for Xbox. I'm also confused because some say he says nothing and some seem to pick up things he didn't even say "basically he's saying yadayada.."

Why do the interview at all? He could have declined as he should have because this is all PR.This interview adds nothing to help the X1's reputation and he has already done enough interviews as is.You like his vision? Well he is just saying positive things as expected with no evidence backing his words, which is the problem.Yw are an Xbox fan so of course you want to believe and that clouds your judgment.

I honestly wasn't expecting anything more than empty words and some argumentum ad hominem and here we go...

There's obviously demand for his interviews since he's asked to do them and I see no point in declining. You don't have to read every interview, I know I don't, but you're entitled to your opinion of course. What evidence do you need to back his words to be specific? Of focusing on 1st party? Yeah it remains to be seen but like I said, I like his vision, and as a customer this should benefit me. I never though it would be a good idea to try win some "console war" at all costs, focusing in their own product is the key and that's what customers want. I don't know what this has to do with "believing" anything.

I believe him, and it was a good interview, he answered the questions really well.

He's said before that he doesn't want people to NOT buy PS4's (he has one himself, and a WiiU ), but he wants people to buy an Xbox One, on it's own or in addition to other consoles.

He also said Wii U hasn't sold too bad and it has the strongest first party lineup.

He's focused on making Xbox One a more appealing purchase, and he's going to achieve that by bringing new features and content.

PS, PS2, Gameboy Advance, PS3, PSP, PS4, Xbox One

The bold only happened because of lower than expected sales and the BC thing is just to use as hype for their overall average E3.BC brings nothing new or original to the X1 experience and just holds on to the 360,which is part of the problem.

I'm pretty sure BC brings a new feature to Xbox One lol

but it brings nothing new. ;D

Hunting Season is done...

As someone else pointed out.. not only a change from last year but a change from a few weeks ago when beating PS4 in one single week of June seemed like a big deal.

It brings the ability when you purchase Gears of War: Ultimate Edition to get ALL THE OLDER games for FREE..    How does that not bring something new or "add value".   We will be seeing this alot .. and it was something the Xbox team didn't even think of at first with BC.    Just Cause 3.. come with  Just Cause 2.. FREE.   So.. for those who DIDNT own the games on X360.. or DIDNT even own a 360.. They can experience earlier games when they buy the newest..

Tell me how that doesn't bring something "new" to the table.    Explain when this has been done before?  Yes the games aren't "new".. but they are often "new" to the consumer.. and the feature itself is "new"..

XBLive: cpg716     PSN ID: cpg716  Steam: Luv4Tech77

Predictions on 12/01/15 - Generation 8 Totals:

PS4: 85-95m
X1: 55-65m
WiiU: 20-30m

This right here is so much damn truth.  I saw the Gears news and thought "holy shit, that is a game changer" simply from the perspective of something that hadn't been done before.  Taking old and making it new again is gold (pun intended) in this instance.  I was on the fence about grabbing the new Gears when it first drops.  I hadn't played the last installment (or 2?) in the series, so now it is a day 1 just so I can do them all up.
