With China's one child only rule he probably regretted having a daughter and hoped she drown,

On a side note tall and strong asian man wtf? preventing two life guards from saving her? surely one could have freed himself and ran away from him and into the water.

Well, since you've basically run the table on assumptions here, from Asian = China, to Asian = Short, why not Asian = Kung Fun Master?

i don't know i saw a chinese guy on facebook post it was a chinese tourist . Just stuck in my head.

Ahhh, haven't seen anything on FB, everything in the news (all news, via google) comes from an Emirates 24/7 article, all citing an unidentified 'Asian' man.  I was just making a joke though heh.

Bingo.  And before the crazies get all up in arms, culture does not equal the people of that culture.  The belief set needs to go, the people are welcome to get with the program.

Yep, and what better way to get the culture to go but not the people? By condemning it! That's the only way those people might start to think differently. If you just accept them doing that then stuff like this will just keep happening and even get worse.

Exactly, what was ok behavior a thousand years ago, is not ok now.  Society evolves, so does the morale landscape.

Eh, it'll recycle itself anyway. Pushing your values won't stop society thinking your views are backwards in a few hundred years either. What the dad did could be completely justified if it'd happen 100yrs from now assuming that sort of mentality reaches westward. I wouldn't say societyevolves as much as it does just fall in and out of favor with given morales

Yes yes yes, and it used to be culturally acceptible to sacrifice children in order to have a good crop.  What a load of horseshit.

Cultures are all equal, you can't rag on someone elses culture, no culture is perfect. Everything we consider "decent" or "right" is just a human construct anyway.

haha, that's what former leaders of my country should have said at the Nuremberg Trials "unleashing a world war with roughly 70 million casualties, out of which 6 million were absolutely defenseless jews we burned, worked/starved to death or shot was just our culture, you can't critizes that, it's moraly equal to your culture"

Hilarious. 'Okay, you got me, there is one, but my religion doesn't teach that'.

No but yours does, for example, have a history of homophobia, misogyny, of encouraging the spread of HIV and Aids through its opposition to contraception, aggressive proselytism, opposition to sexual freedoms, of covering up mass child rape within the church, and that's just its more abhorrent aspects in recent decades. Not exactly an organisation of untold virtue now is it? Go back further and things get really ugly.

Wow, and you're an admin.

Sounds like you could be describing the government of most countries in the middle east, the US, most countries really.  Slavery, over taxation, gay marriage, and more are really governmental issues.  You MIGHT be critizing my religion but only the misguided efforts of a few poor leaders and pedophiles who bluffed their way into service who obviously were only using the religion as a means to the end and didn't follow the teachings.  Just like the boy scouts could tell you.

You also left out the moral backbone that dictates our laws, all the billions of dollars over the years that was donated by Catholics for relief aid as well as missionaries, priests and nuns who worked to help the sick and poor regardless of ANYTHING, race, religion, sex, sexuality etc, often giving up their own lives to care for them.  The good works and teachings of the Bible and Jesus though helping those less fortunate, regardless of race, sex, sexual orientation (Jesus saved a prostitute from execution) or any other factors. The Virgin Mary, Mother Teresa, Joan of Arc and other female saints say hi and are greatly revered.  Against sexual freedoms, you mean like the gov was denying them (seperation of church and state).  Against contraception for valuing life, oh noes, preaching monogamy, wait you said we were pedophiles.  Nothing wrong with trying to convert people to your religion, just like MSNBC and Fox do, we don't do it by the sword though :).

Your ability to compartmentalise and ignore the abuses and intolerances of your religion is a perfect illustration of how they were able to go on for so long without being condemned. Thank fuck most of the western world is slowly moving on, away from such backwards beliefs.

Incidentally, your religion was at the forefront of 'converting by the sword' during the crusades and, of course, the inquisition.

Your bias and inability to seperate the poor leaders from the teachings and beliefs of it's peoples is the perfect illustration for my point in the first place, your intolerant with a flimsy knowledge of history and just as the US and other countries that had slavery, dictators, genocides, or whatever skeltons in their closets over the years, they have tried to move past them.  No government, religion or organization is perfect and I'm not going to defend those who made moral or other decisions against what my religion preaches.  Oh my religion of over 1.2 billion or over 2.2 billion with other Christian denominaitons.  Don't worry we aren't going anywhere and whatever we lose in people we will make up for once they see the alternative.  Not to mention Islam is the growing at an ever increasing rate.

But nice try, it's good for everyone to see that you aren't a neutral admin and clearly have issues with religion.  Feel free to educate yourself and get over it.

Makes perfect sense, really.  I mean, a hundred+ years ago it was perfectly fine to marry children and own slaves, now...oh wait.  Sorry, if anything, history has proven bad ideas get left to the history books.  And thankfully, religion is being pulled kicking and screaming into the future.  Sure, it takes time (Vatican apology to Galileo), but it does eventually happen.  Your study of history, isn't as solid as you seem to think.

I'm not surprised, stuff like this is the norm for the islamic belief and they perceive non islamic people as infidels and vastly inferior. Almost every islamic country is riddled with injustice, corruption and terror and torture for their population. When your belief system is basically fantasy then there is hardly a good basis for making decisions in life. I really doubt he cared about his daughter anyway.

What a fucking asshole.

It's really not as simple as that. All it takes is a war to go the other way to completely overhaul a mindset. And this isn't even just about morales either. This goes for beauty and so on. Homosexuality has come in and out of acceptance in many cultures, for example, and will more than likely fall in and out of favor for as long as humans have the urge to have sex. Of course I'm only here to play devil's advocate because these discussions are more entertaining than some other topics people have an... inkling towards XD
