Fair enough, that's their belief though and is not a Catholic one.  There are no medical procedures that Catholics are not allowed to take with the exception of stem cells, everything else is on the table, from transfusions, resusitation, transplants, medication, and surgerys.  If it were me, my wife, or child, I would not hesitate to have anyone do anything they could to save that life.  I can't pretend to even name all the other religions but I do not like how Nauticus or whatever his name is can just lump all religions together with such a broad statement.

The world is trying to get more tolerant but it just seems like I see way to many examples on these boards where the big brush of religion is just painted as broadly as possible.  And on an article that in all likelihood had nothing to do with religion.

Hilarious. 'Okay, you got me, there is one, but my religion doesn't teach that'.

No but yours does, for example, have a history of homophobia, misogyny, of encouraging the spread of HIV and Aids through its opposition to contraception, aggressive proselytism, opposition to sexual freedoms, of covering up mass child rape within the church, and that's just its more abhorrent aspects in recent decades. Not exactly an organisation of untold virtue now is it? Go back further and things get really ugly.

Wow, and you're an admin.

Sounds like you could be describing the government of most countries in the middle east, the US, most countries really.  Slavery, over taxation, gay marriage, and more are really governmental issues.  You MIGHT be critizing my religion but only the misguided efforts of a few poor leaders and pedophiles who bluffed their way into service who obviously were only using the religion as a means to the end and didn't follow the teachings.  Just like the boy scouts could tell you.

You also left out the moral backbone that dictates our laws, all the billions of dollars over the years that was donated by Catholics for relief aid as well as missionaries, priests and nuns who worked to help the sick and poor regardless of ANYTHING, race, religion, sex, sexuality etc, often giving up their own lives to care for them.  The good works and teachings of the Bible and Jesus though helping those less fortunate, regardless of race, sex, sexual orientation (Jesus saved a prostitute from execution) or any other factors. The Virgin Mary, Mother Teresa, Joan of Arc and other female saints say hi and are greatly revered.  Against sexual freedoms, you mean like the gov was denying them (seperation of church and state).  Against contraception for valuing life, oh noes, preaching monogamy, wait you said we were pedophiles.  Nothing wrong with trying to convert people to your religion, just like MSNBC and Fox do, we don't do it by the sword though :).

Ah yes, "honor".

People need to lay off the dad. They are from a different culture. You guys stuck in your bubble, need to realize that cultures differ widely. This type of belief is part of many Asian cultures and although it may not make sense when looking at it from inside your bubble, you need to realize that many of your own cultural customs don't make sense from the bubbles of others either.

Yes yes yes, and it used to be culturally acceptible to sacrifice children in order to have a good crop.  What a load of horseshit.

Cultures are all equal, you can't rag on someone elses culture, no culture is perfect. Everything we consider "decent" or "right" is just a human construct anyway.

Exactly. It's always been a strange thought that people are unable to see outside of what they were raised in.

Yes I can.  I just did.  A culture that allows that is stupid, and deserves to be forgotten.  No shit it's a human construct.  Without the human brain, there would be no need for Decent, or Right and morality wouldn't exist.

If any culture would choose to let innocent people die for the sake of 'honour' when they could have easily been saved then it doesn't need to be understood as 'oh that's a different culture so it's fine'. And quite frankly the sooner cultures like that are wiped off the face of the earth the better.

Bingo.  And before the crazies get all up in arms, culture does not equal the people of that culture.  The belief set needs to go, the people are welcome to get with the program.

Just WHAT THE FUCK!?

Hardly surprising to me.It's quite well known that muslims will refuse blood transfusions that could save their lives (After an accident or operation) because non muslim blood is seen as impure.Basically many of their views have not changed from 1000 years ago, no other religion is as rigid and unwavering as Islam.

Yep, and what better way to get the culture to go but not the people? By condemning it! That's the only way those people might start to think differently. If you just accept them doing that then stuff like this will just keep happening and even get worse.

Exactly, what was ok behavior a thousand years ago, is not ok now.  Society evolves, so does the morale landscape.
